As the debate wore on it became obvious that Mr. Cass had " 'no other alternative but to resign. The Prime Minister felt that the bill did not really infringe on the basic rights of the in- dividual, Mr. Cass felt that it did and Mr. Roberts, the former Attorney General, didn't agree with either the Prime Minster, or the Attorney General. It was apparent that the bill was not given the close scrutiny in cab- inet that it should have had. F.bwever after the House rose after the most emotionally ex- hausting day in many years, according to many of the older menribers, one could not help bat feel the tragedy of the hour. the province had lost a hard working, devoted public servant in Mr. Cass.
