RANN a prodeot of Dow Canada, Limited, is a systemic insectipide that is poured I elong the back of the animal,. It is absorbed through the skin and, is carried into tke animals system, killing warble grubs end. lice. Dow Chemical, in cooperation with a goverment, department . of agriculture, last year completed a series of tests of Ruelene 2.511 In. November, 1961, -various herds Were 'treated with one pour-on application of Ruelene. An equal. number of cattle were left untreated to serve as a control check. The results have been uniformly excellent. In one group, 'the treated cattle had no grubs at all,. as opposed to an average of 11.3 per head for the untreated animals. In another test, involving 4500 bead, the treated group averaged 0.03 grubs per head compared with 9.0 grubs per head for the untreated, In all - cases, owners reported an apparent freedom from lice among the treated animals until spring, 1962. • Karlier developed methods of control involved spraying cattle in the spring after the grub had • borrowed through the flesh and hide of the animal. By killing warble flies in an early larval stage, Ruelene 25E eliminates- this pest. before It does damage to flesh and hide. Such early control, in turn, usually means better. weight .gains and feed effic- iency. By reducing trimming losses, hide dockage and down-grading of cattle, Ruelene •25E promises to be an effective tool in the hands of cattlemen seeking higher profits. The success of the tests snbstant- Wes the claims of Dow Chemical that one pour-on application of Ruelene 25E in the fall, within the • recommended use period, results in the elimination of 95% or more of cattle grubs, control of horn flies for two to three weeks and a, reduct- ion of both sucking and biting lice infestations, Moved by Glenn Huether second- ed by Lawson Ward that the appeale on the 1962 Assesemen.
