:John Alexander"Work passed away'
'en Saint-day, Dec. 26th, 1959, at the I.
•Wingham General Hospital, after
-a lengthy illness.
The son of the late W1l1iam Work
and 'eane Robb, he was born on Feb-
ruary '21st, 1888, on Lot 1 Concession
of Grey "Township.
In 191911e married Mary Speir who
survives along with one son, Graham, ;
and one da`eighter, June, (Mrs.
'George Backer, London.) One ,
daughter, Mary Helen, died in
infancy. He also leaves to molten his
less two brothers, Robert W. and
Harold, both of Toronto, also six
grandchildren.
A • lifelong metruber of Melvillt
Presbyterian Chureh, he served for
ninny Years as an elder.
The service was condteitted by the
Rev, X. H. Greene at the D. A. Rapn
Funeral Home on Monday, Dec.,
28till, at 6 D. m. with. interment, in
Brussels cemetery,

Robert Wilfred (Dick) Whitfield .
died Steddenly of a heart attack at
his home in Brussels on Setarday
night. He was in his 65th year.
Mr. Whitfield has been a resident
of Brus,sels for the past five years,
tarrying on an intlevanee businese
here since hie retirement from
farming.
He was born i n Grey township
a eon of the late Albert Whitfield
and Annie Hamilton Whitfield.
He is survived by his wife, the
former HaZel Archibald; one
I brother, Eric, Newry; one sister,

mother's arms, Eddie :3, in wicker chair at front, and
Bevin, 4, at back of table were found huddled near
an upstairs window. They ,are believed to have suf-
focated.
CHILDREN DIE IN FIRE — A tragic home fire early
Thursday snuffed out the lives of three children of
Mx. and Mrs: David Firby of Brussels. Mr. and Mrs.
Firby are in K - W hospital where Mrs. Firby is still
in serious condition with severe burns suffered in un—
successful attempts to save the children. Xr.. Firby

le the history of Brussels and
shrouded the village in sadness,

hospitalized their parents, in the
early morning hours of Thursday,
December 31st, 1959.
David, Bevan and Edward, five,
'four and three year old sons of I
Mr. and Mrs. David Firby, were
vietims of a disastrous fire which ,
gutted their home. Mrs. Firby is
still in eriticel condition in Kitele

definitely determined. It was stated
to this paper, that the oil stove, at
first believed to have started the
holocaust, had been thoroughly i
checked at the beginning of the
season and was later found intact ;
in the ruche.
