THE PATH. TO EASTER
(BY The Bey- W. K. -Yaggs)
It has been Wald that "All Lent is 1
Easter Eve," for its Met purpose
is to secure a devlu.t preparation
lax the cetera. Of the Resurrection
It .is impossible to ^egaimate the.
value of Lent to.Christians in all
agee of the Church's history, and it
is obvious that observance of Lent
in our present day may help the
eaithful, arouse the lukewarm, end
call many who would otherwise
lapse Into sheer indifferentiem to a
sincere endeavour to make some
prreeress in faith and knowledge,
Once again the call has come to
us to observe this solemn season, If
we are enthusiastic about Lent,
'we made our plans before Ash
Wednesday, and we have embarked
on that course of prayer and dIsei•
pline Vila., we elite, is going to lead
'ifs nearer to that righteousness and
true holiness 'which comes of our
flesh being d4bdued to the spirit.
All of us are called to acquire
that righteousness and true holiness
which shown forth. in perfection
in Jesus Christ, It is made, up of
vA31011,6 virtues and which the bless-
eid Apostle, 'St. Paul, calls the I feuets of the Spirit, Love, Joy:
Peece, Lour sufferirig, Gentleness ;
Goodness. They are the svtrtu'es for I
which we Christians have to aim.
They are all gifts of grace, gifts
that, in order that we may co-
operate with the Divine Lard, we
liOst receive in vain, But although ;'
it is not possible for us ever in
this life to manifest in it's lull
glory the spiritamil life; yet we suet
not lose sight of the fact that
eleis must be our aim - to be per
feet as Christ was perfect. We shall
often he disappointed, often be sadly
grieved and .cast down. It is Our
human fraility that will make us so.
Let each of 'tie fervently pray that
daring this Lenten period our
spirtual lives may be se enriched. ;
that we shall he one further step
:o that righteousness and true holm-
reef. which comes of our Vesh being
subdued to the spirit.
