On Saturday afternoon, July 19th,
over one hendred members of the
Cardiff clan celebrated the center_
vial anniversary of the Cardiff
Homestead at Lot 3, qoncessioti
7, Grey Township, now the home of
Mir. and Mrs. W. J. D, Clardiff.
In 1353 Mark Cordiff and his
wife Margaret Duffield came to
Grey township from Leeds county
with their family 'of three (laugh_

Mark Hamilton); !Sarah (Mrs.
'Thomas Hingstoln)te and 'seven
sons, 'George, John, Henry, Richard

The bride is the only daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Claire Long, Brus-
sels, and the bridegroom is the son
of Mr, and Mrs. yhomas Hackwell,
Walton. Rev. W. A. Williams per,
formed the ceremopy, and tra.
ditional wedding music was played
by Mary Dennis, who also accom-
panied the soloist, Mrs, Herbert
Travis, Welton, when she sang, "eS
Wedding Prayer" before the cere-
mony, and "Ili Walk ,Beside You"
during the singing of the register.
Given in marriage, the bride wore
an internetssiondength gown of
white imported embroidered nylon,
featuring a. Sabrina. neckline, scal-
loped cap sleeves. ana a stem
waistline extending into a very full
skirt with scalloped hemline. A
satin cummerbund originating In the
darts at the waistline extended to
the hemline at the back, and beneath
the skirt she 'wore a hooped cilia-
olin of satin, Her long lily-point
gloves matched her dress. The
double-tiered veil of French illusion
net was caught to a cloche head-
piece of seed pearls and iridescent
palletlis, 'and she carried a white
Bible crested with red roses.
Mrs. Murray Long, Listowel, was
matron of honor, wearing a
street-length pnincess style gown of
'orange ice imported Swiss brocade
and oarried a boquet of white
carnations.
The bridesmaids, Miss Helen
Johnston and 'Miss Claire Hack-
Well, sister of the bridegroom, were
gowned alike in street-length gowns
of mint green imported Swiss bro-
cade. They carried baguets of pink
carnations. Karen and Connie
Coutts, cousin's of the bride, were
floweir4Oirls, dressed identically, in
princess styled dreeees of orange
ice Swiss brocade. • They carried
nosegays of white carnations, Gary
Long, brother of the bride, was
ring bearer. The best man was
Howard Hackwell, hrother of the
bridegroom. Mneray Long, hrother
of the bride, and Elliott Rockwell,
brother of the groom ushered.
Following the ceremony, a re-
ception was held in the church
paa•lour where the bride's mother
received wearing a dress of Baribe
mantilla blue novelty crepe w'ith
white 'ac.ceeeoriies and a shoulder
corsage of yellow baby chrysanthe-
mum* The bridegroom's mother
assisted wearing a dress of dusty
rose net over taffeta with white
For travelling they bride chose
a lim'ergreen. ensemble with white
accessories,
Following a wedding trip through
Northern Onttiairio and the United
State% the couple will reside on
the groone"s faima in MoKlillop
township.

Mrs. Kirkby, the former Matilda
Jane McKay was in her 43rd year.
She was born near Moncrieff, the
daughter of the late Mr, and Mrs.
Cleo. McKay, She attended school
at Moncrieff and Was active
church and community work. In
November 1935 she was married to
Frank Kirkby of 'Walton by the
Rev. alias. Coninein.8. Fonowing
'clic:ill, marriage they resided on the
12th. con. of McKillop, west of
Leadbury until morincg to the
village about 10 years ago. Besides
ter husband she is survived by two
sons, Douglas at home end Herbert
of Art, College, pronto, at present
at home and a niece, Mary Lou
Kirkby, who resides with them,
also two brothers, and two sisters,
William McKay, of Dundee, Lundy
McKay, Auburn, . Mrs. Win. Moss
(Marion) Auburn; Mrs. Adolph
Miller (May), Ellice Township.
Mrs. Kirkby, who was a member
of Duff's United Ceaurch, Walton,
was particularly active in W.M.S.
and W.A. work and a telacher in the
Sunday .Sehool. She was a member
of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge,
of Brussels!
