resKents of 'Brussels and district
against the so called use of the
"Canadian Legion" for commercial
purposes..
During the week a stranger to the
district was around soliciting 5:111)-
scriptions to magazines under the
pf Legion sponsorship.
Many citizens, including veterans,
• 'may have been victims to this ruse,.
The local branch has front lime to
time warned that any appeal of any
kind by them, would be well advere
tisee and a, detailed description of
the need would be mace known to
all. At no time will this branch in.
any way sponsor 80mmerelal sales
of an kind, we definitely will
NOT compete with local business Or
sales by an moans whatever,
It is a well known fact that these.
publishing houses have used every
method to increase sales, and have
paid out, terrific sums of money in,
Iva:Mons ways to accomplish this, •
No doubt this has been to the ben- •
efit of some persons an.d concerns,
and we have no desire to belittle
such causes. The plain facts are
some branches of the Legidn were
approached to' sponsOr this method.
of sales with premiums being of e
fered for such sponsorship. At e
meeting of: the zone representate
dives, of the Legion, it was votea
down, but a ,few of the branches.
had already signed .contracts and'
therefore were committed, but In
no Way were they to enter another
branches district.
The fact ren'ains, B'russels was
invaded by a saleman or salesmen;
and we strongly resent it. The -
Brussels Branch has already puree
chased an invalid chair, entirely
from its own funds, which, is avail-
able to any person in the district
free of charge, who has need of it,
and a I:went-fel bed is available in -
emergency from the Red • Cros,
through the branch,
The menebers .of this Branch,
together. with. the members of the
Ladies Auxiliary are elway ready.
-and willing to canvas for the
sodieties such as the Red Cross,
Salvation Army or• other' non '
profit organizations which have
no ether Way of doing this work.
Such, canvasses are not by any
means an easy task but rather the
labour of love for the better things ;
in life.

that you will be well warned in
