lia;e been attending meetings
in Toronto for the past few days
and some important information
has developed.
In the February 27 isslIe or a
p.,per I learned that a
pipeline is. to be constructed .tram
Stratford to Seaforth, along the
railway line. It is interesting to.
note that the line is not being plac-
ed on railway property. Your Fed-
eration of Agriculture Pipleline
Committee has been working with
th Minister of Mines under whose
jurisdiction pipeline& are listed.
The committee has been assured
that .the Pipeline Act Will be stu-
died and.revisecl at this session,
The committee has requested
that farmers be notified of the pro-
posed pipeline and its exact loca-
tion at least 90 days before the
company be allowed to purchase
easements. They have been given
*reason to believe that this will be
granted shortly.
In they past, pipeline represents-
tiVes have suddenly arrived at the
farmer's door with an easement
form. If the farmer didn't agree
at once he was accused of obstruct-
ing progress. In many cases the,
farmer was badgered into signing
very unsatisfactory settlements.
In the case of damages the com-
mittee request8 that the company
must accept all responsibility for
any and all damages. Tina seems
Only reasonable since farmers. could
hardly be expected to subsidize in-
dustrial develenke.nt,
Pending this rev/.4..on of legisla-
tion, farmers are urged nototo sign
any type of agreement on this
question.. Further, your , Federa-
tion of Agriculture has not approv-
ed an specific contract form, Ev-
cry situation is different and there-
fore must be valued individually.
Secondly, Co-operative Medical
Services have sought the co-opera-
tion of the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture and it now seems like-
ly that Co-operative Medical Set-
vices. will be ,given representation
on on the: Provincial Hospitalization.
Board; and it is also expected that
they will have the right to handle
the government insurance .and be
paid a, suitable service fee. We-
believe this, too, will be granted
during the pres'nt session, If you
have any infinence With your -local
provincial members; let him know
that yoU. are interested in these two
qtestieris,
