Today's s ipture teaches
three importaxjt lessons regard-
ing prayers. " en ought always
to pray." Paul said, "Pray with-
out ceasing." Qur praying ls to
spasmodic. M4iy never think Of
prayer until tljey get in trouble.
It's like a spa e tire; only to be,
thought of in time Of treubIe,

But life is of centre that way.
We ought alw is to pray, 'Then
life will run qiore smoothly anti
we shall acco plisli much more
for God and ur fellowmen.
Jesus taug t persistence ht
prayer. The iclow kept pester-
ing the judge until he took up
w
her case. So e must continue
in prayer, "A k, and it shall be .
given you; s ek, and ye shall
find; knock, and it shall be
opened unto you." Seeking is
stronger than asking and knock-
ing emphasizes persistence. But
we may wonder, "If it is God's
will to give Rite me why should -
I have to c ntinad knocking."

Continuing i stant in prayer
does sorneth ng to us. After

in a humble ttitude so that we
are better fitted to receive the
gift. We ina5i need a disciplin-
ing of our qwn spirit.
Jesus tea es sincerity in
-prayer. The Pharisee's prayer
• was a soliloq y which exhibited
his own con eit. He mentioned
no fault of 1s own, but enum-, •
erated the sins of others in order
st
that he migh congratulate him-
self upon hi superior morality.
Such praying received no -an-
swer from 9- od, and doubtless
none was expected. There was
really nothink to answer, as he
asked for niithing, but merely

The Public n's prayer is much
;•Tdiferent. He stands afar of. He
-.confesses wi h sharne that he
a sinner. tHis prayer was a
cry of the h art, simple, concise,
stirred, it sppaks in telegrams."
In one brie4 sentence he sum-
med up his ours need, and that
need was ±or mercy.
