Elliott who died in 1035. • She was born in Oxford 'County in 1869 ,and at the age of thwee .monllas moved with her -father and mother 'Moor and Isabella (Bruce) Green- slade, to Amabell township in Bruce County, The trip as described to her in later years WaS a thrilling one. Railway travel for Brace county at .that time ended at Palmerston they had to go to Goderich and go from there by boat to Southampton. Their boat was an sidewheeler • named "Bonnie", and Mrs. Elliott's was the only woman an board. Shortly - after they had started on tihair trip a sudden storm broke the rudder chain, and the boat was wash- ed ashore near Kincardine. This was in October and happesed at10.00, o' clock night. Some of the sailors neenored Mrs. Elliott's mother to shore in a lifeboat and the three- menth-old child was left the oars other fath.er. They Were. rescued later, after a hair-raising iScident In which their life boat was washed from underneath them, The rest of the trip was made by lumber wagon over corduroy road to Elmore.. Mrs. Elliott says her mother had a cup ,and .sauoer, - a spoon and. a knife, the only articles of their •Possessiona Saved from the boat. After five yeara in Ameba they returned to Oxford for a row years'. When Mrs,. Elliott -was, 17, her fath- er 'was drowned in Mud Lake in Bruce County and they moved once more to their former. home in Oxford county. • Mrs. Elliott is in good health end her keen memory makes her .a most interesting compaSion. She is a • member of • Melville Presbyterian • Church and tor many years- Walked. to BruSs.els, to the service and to do .her shopping. Of late years the walk has seemed a little strenuous.
