PERSONALS Christmas Day guests with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Murray and Susan were Misses Gladys and Ida Leiper and Ross Leiper of Clinton, Mr. and Mrs. Torrance Dundas were in Kitchener with Mrs. Olene Stutz and Natasha to spend Christmas Eve returning the next day. They all enjoyed Christmas dinner at Triple K., Blyth on Boxing Day. Mrs. Isabelle Shortreed spent Christmas with Mr. and Festival of Lessons, Carols and Candlelight Service of Praise was held Christmas Eve Thursday, December 24 at Duff's United Church, Walton. Mrs. Ray Huether played the organ. The Senior Church School and Youth Group entered from the back of the church carrying lighted candles sing- ing "Go Tell it to the Mountain" with the congre- gation joining in. Duet, "Christmas" was sung by Mildred Traviss and Phyllis Mitchell. Carol "0 Little Town of Bethlehem". First Lesson: Genesis 3:8.15 was read by Dianne McCallum. Rev. Charles A. Swan favoured with a solo, "In the bleak mid winter". Second lesson: Isaiah 9: 1-5 was read by Murray Sholdice. Carol/ Joy to the World was sung by the congregation and accom- panied by Patricia Hackwell, Cathy McGavin and Jeanne McDonald with their trump- ets, and pianist Marie Mc- Gavin. Mrs, Smith and family in Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Toni Ste- venson, Ron and Chris spent Christmas with the former parents, Mr, and Mrs. Stuart Stevenson and family. They spent Boxing Day with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Allan McCall. Christmas guests with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Traviss were Dr. Brian and Mrs. Traviss, Allison and Leslie of Water- loo; Mr. and Mrs. Ken Moffett and Brett of Guelph and Mrs. Olive Traviss of Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mills, Walton and Mrs Louise Buttell of Blyth returned home Sunday after spending Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Mills and family at Brantford and over Boxing Day with Drs. Jean and Gerd Westermann of Burlington. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Stevens held their Christmas on Boxing Day when 19 members of their family were home. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pen- nington, Goderich and Miss Gail Searle spent Boxing Day with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Searle. Mr. John Thamer of Slave Lake, Alberta came home on the weekend, along with his sons Tony and Jason from Wheatley. Mrs. Ruth Thamer held Christmas on Sunday for The Sunday School sang "The First Noel". Third lesson-Luke 1:26-33 was read by Cheryl Fraser. Duet: "Star of the East" by Mildred Traviss and Phyllis Mitchell. Fourth lesson Matthew 1: 18-23 by Joyanne Van Vliet. Solo "0 Holy Night" by Graeme Craig with guitar accompaniment. Fifth lesson- Luke 11:8-16 by Brian Mc- Gavin followed by another solo, "Silent Night" by Graeme Craig. Carol,"While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks" was sung. Sixth lesson-Matthew 11;1-5, 7-11 by Marilyn McDonald. The Youth Group sang "What Child Is This" accompanied by Marie McGavin at the piano. Margery Huether ac- companied at the piano when The members of Knox United Sunday School played to a packed hall of friends and relatives as they presented their annual Christmas con- cert on Tuesday evening, December 22nd. Rev. John Roberts acted as Master of Ceremonies and Jefferson McKee opened the concert with a recitation. Mrs. George Cull led the Intermediate choir as they sang several numbers ac- companied by Sheila Ander- son at the piano. Heather Dobell, Darlene Black, Crystal Black and Lori Crawford gave a welcome to all. A large number of adorable beginners got together to sing a couple of numbers. Heather Morton entertained with a recitation entitled Merry. David McKee and Mark Coultes entertained with a recitation Christine Dobeil told us what she wanted for Christ- Marie McGavin sang a solo, "A Wondrous Word". The Rev. Charles A. Swan welcomed everyone giving a short meditation and prayer. He reminded the congrega- tion that Mrs. Jean Mathets, Bluevale would be in the pulpit on Sunday while he is on vacation in Bermuda. The offering was received by Patricia Hackwell, Blaine Hackwell and Neil Mitchell. Carol, "0 Come All Ye Faithful" was sung. Candlelight ceremony with candlelighters Cathy Mc- Gavin and Jeanne McDonald as all joined in singing "Pass It, On". Closing a very im- pressive Christmas Eve ser- vice with "Silent Night". Rev. Some re- tired Sunday School mem- bers, Donald Procter, Ross Procter, Calvin, Steven and Randy Nixon presented "The Lesson", and the Senior choir sang several numbers led by Mrs, Howard Morton and accompanied by Mrs. George Johnston at the piano. The concert came to a delightful close as George Cull obtained audience par- ticipation in choral singing while waiting for Santa to pay his annual visit to distribute gifts and candy bags.
