GEORGE BROWN 335 , 3424 Unit 4 of the Gorrie United Church Women met in the Sunday School room with 23 in attendance. Mrs. Dick Carson opened with a Christmas reading. A number of carols were sung accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Harold Hyndman. Mrs. Edward. Bolander , gave the scripture reading from Luke 2:1-7. Mrs. Carson gave the med- itation with the theme being, "The day Christ was born". Mrs. Bolander read, "An Old Fashioned Christmas". An exchange of secret pal gifts was held. Mrs. Lloyd Martin install- ed the officers for 1982. Past President-Mrs. George Brown; President-Mrs. Clift- on Coulter; 1st Vice President - Mrs. Bill Nay; Treasurer- Mrs. Bruce Robertson; Secre- tary-Mrs. Ivan Haskins,. assistant-Mrs. Melville Den- nis; flower and cheer- Miss Margaret Dane; Catering Committee-Mrs. Lionel John- ston; pianist-Mrs. Harold Cou Hyndman; nominating com- mittee-Mrs. Allan Hyndman and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy; Quilt Committee-Mrs. Har- old Hyndrnan, Miss Margaret Dane, Mrs. Wilbur Hogg, Mrs. George Brown, Mrs. Robert Ferguson, Mrs. Cloyne Michel, Mrs. Melvin Taylor, Mrs. Hector Hamil- ton, Mrs. Jos. Simmons. A bountiful Christmas lunch was served following which 12 boxes were packed for shut-ins. The next meeting will be held on January 4th at the home of Mrs. Melvin Taylor. UNIT 3 U.C.W. Unit 3 of the Gorrie United Church, U.C.W. held their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Sheldon Mann on Monday evening, Dec. 14. There were eleven members and two visitors present. Mrs. Alvin Grainger con- vened the devotions service with prayer, scripture and, "Thoughts on Christmas," during which several carols were sung with Mrs. Sheldon Mann at the organ. Members also contributed poems and short readings. Mrs. Grainger closed the worship with prayer. Presi- dent Mrs. Gerald Galbraith conducted the business and after an exchange of gifts a lovely lunch was served by the committee in charge. The executive for 1982 will he the same as it was for 1981. Some correspondence from the Huron Day Centre for the Homebound in which the Summer Canada, Works Programme had prepared information on access to public buildings and were requesting a donation of $25 to share in the cost of printing the information resulted in a similar topic later in councillor Gordon Workman's report on recreation.
