HELD POT LUCK
LUNCHEON
Unit 2 of the Gorrie
U.C.W. gathered at the home
of Mrs. Alex Taylor for their
Christmas meeting.
A delicious pot luck
luncheon was enjoyed by the
twelve members present at
12:30.
The service, an all mem-
bers programme was opened
with quiet organ music by
Margaret Dane, a guest.
The theme of the worship
was "Candles of the Lord". It
opened by singing of "0
Come All Ye Faithful".
Narrator began by saying,
"There is much beauty and
meaning in the symbols and
customs connected with
Christmas season. Carol and
stories, decorations of pine,
holly and mistletoe have all
become part of our Yule
season.
However, one of the most
significant symbols is the
"Lighted Candles". Its glow-
ing flame speaks to us of the
light and love of God come
down on Christmas.
More than that the lighted
candles speak to us to remind
us of our conditions today.
The wise Solomon who wrote
in Proverbs, "The Spirit to
Man is the Candle of the
Lord". There is something
useless and pathetic about an-
unlighted candle to achieve
the purpose for which it was
created, it must be touched
by a flame from above and
brought to glowing life. There
is something more sad and
pathetic about a candle that
once was glowing and now
has gone out.
So, it is with man, woman
and young people, life has no
weaning or purpose until
their spirit has been touched
py the light and love of God.
ntil he or she responds by
faith, in obedience and
through worship, will any one
become a candle of the lord.
Mrs. Pavid Dickert read
the Voice of Revelation pass-
ages from Isaiah 7:14; 1 1-2
Lake 1:26-33.
Voice of Response was
taken by Mrs. Lorne Walker
who read passage from Luke
1. Mrs. Cecil Grainger the
first candle, "The Spirit of
Mary became the Candle of
the Lord by "Faith" she
believed God and entrusts
herself to Him.
Music-"O Come Emman-
uel" Narrator Luke 2:1-7
Hymn-Silent Night was sung.
Again Voice of Revelation
read Luke 1: 8-14 with the
Voice of Response Luke 1:
5-20.
Mrs. C. Grainger lights the
second candle and reads, The
spirits of the Shepherds be-
came Candles of the Lord, a
sign "Obedience". They
hearkened to the message
and sought the New born
Child.
Music-"There's a Song in
the Air" after which Matthew
2-1&2. Micah 5:2 Matt 2:9,
10-12 were read. Light of
third candle, as through Wor-
ship, they presented gifts.
The president conducted
the business reports from
committees heard. Treasurer
reports showed our allocation
to General U.C.W. to be
$600. One hundred dollars
from a quilt was sent 'directly
to Dr. Donald Watt, Supt. of
Medical Missions across Can-
ada for his work on the B.C.
coast. A further $30 was
voted to our Mission and
Service Fund of our local
church.
The January meeting is to
be held at Mrs. Max Bell's
home.
Roll call was answered by a
Christmas thought.
Mrs. Nilda Harrison then
told us of Christmas in her
former home in the Philipines
She has come to make her
home in Gorrie and we
welcomed her to our unit.
