Choir has party
On Sunday afternoon Dec.
6th the Brussels. United
Church choir, the organist,
Kenneth Cowan and Rev.
Gordon Hazelwood visited
the Calander Nursing Home
and sang Christmas carols
after which we were enter-
tained in The Hazelwood
home and enjoyed coffee,
cookies and cake.
On Dec. 10th the choir
members, their husbands
and wives and Ken and Liz
were entertained at the home
of Ruth and Vern Hupfer for
our Christmas party.
Lyle Brothers showed
slides of pictures taken a few
years back and some of the
present. Alice got us in the
Christmas spirit by her piano
playing of carols. A delicious
smorgasbord lunch was
served, Christmas gifts were
exchanged.
The choir thanked Ruth
and Vern for their great
hospitality.
Win at bingo
Mrs. Larus was the win-
ner of the $68.00 Share the
Wealth game at the DeceM-
ber 11th Brussels Legion
turkey bingo.
Winners of the $25.00
Specials were Mrs. George
Hislop, Brenda Laws and Kay
Aitcheson.

President Mrs. Johnston
conducted the meeting and
Mrs. Peacock was in charge
of the worship service. She
asked the members to reflect
on times in their lives when
God seemed remote to them
and also to think of those
things in our society that pull
many away from God.
Passages of scripture from
the Gospel of St. Luke and St.
Mark were read by Mrs. Carl
Johnston.
Mrs. Peacock spoke on
"Roads," where they lead us
and how we rely on them in
our living from day to day:
Favourite Christmas carols
were sung with Mrs. Donald
Street at the piano. The ro4
call was answered with each
member presenting a white
gift.
. Discussion followed about
loaning the church kitchen
equipment and it was decided
that the U.C.W. president be
in charge of loaning such
equipment.
The Huron-Perth meeting
in Hensall on January 25 at 1
p.m. was announced Mrs.
Harold Johnston and Mrs..
Ross Nicholson were
appointed delegates with
each unit to send one also.
Members were asked to
bring items such as needles
pins, thread, sewing material
etc. for Zaire to the February
meeting in response to the
roll call.
Annual reports were given
by unit representatives and
from each committee,
recording a successful year
for the Bluevale United
Church Women.
Seven tables of euchre
were played at the Bluevale
Community Hall, Wed., Dec.
9 High prize winners were
Eleanor McMurray and Mil-
ton Boyd, low prizes, Winnie
Boyd and Harry Elliott. Lucky
card, Carl Frieburger.
A capacity crowd enjoyed
the variety concert in. the
Community Hall, Fri., Dec.
11. Rev. Terry Trites was
M.C. and the evening opened
with recitations from the
junior members, followed by
piano solos, skits, quartets,
_ gymnastics, step danbing,
ukelele band from Turnberry
School and solos. Mrs. Wm.
Peacock introduced beauty
queen contestants sponsored
by the Bluevale and area
businesses. They were well
received by the audience,
showing their grace and
poise. Bluevale is very
fortunate to have so many
attractive ladies who will no
doubt be competing for
"Miss Bluevale" ' in the 1982
celebrations.
The Presbyterian Sunday
School concert was held
Sunday afternoon with a good
variety of recitations, musical
selections and skits. A carol
service was well received in
the evening with the Junior
and senior choirs combining
their vocies with organists,
Mrs. Glenn Snell and Miss
Kathy Snell.
