Among the recipients were Mabel Jean Rawlins of Toronto left and Chris Boettcher of Brussels who were awarded Ketchum Manufacturing Sales Ltd. Awards for Dip. Prog. students for academic ability and extracurricular participation. Guests included Mrs. R. Cumming of Lucknow and Mrs. G. Wall, of Wingham, president -and secretary re- spectively, of the Maitland Presbyterial Society of the W.M.S. A service of worship entit- led "The Gifts of Christmas" was used for the devotional period. It included Christmas hymns each of which was proceded by a brief commen- tary by Mrs. Gerald Gibson on the history of the writer or the circumstances which in- spired the hymn. All present took part in the service and Mrs. Jean McDonald offered prayer. Mrs. Citmmings spoke briefly, bringing greetings from the Presbyterial and she read a Christmas poem. Fifteen calls on sick and• shut,ins were reported. Mrs. Alex. Steiss gave the Christ- mas Message, which was entitled "No Room in, the Inn." ' The humbleness of the circumstances of the birth of Jesus was stressed as a means of relating the event to rich and poor alike. The member- ship instructed the Board to proceed with plans to open a Christian High School in Wingham in September, 1982. A delicious pot luck- dinner was the setting for the Majestic Women's Institute when it met, Wednesday, Dec. 9. In the absence of the President, Dorothy Steffler, 1st Vice-President Marie Mc- Taggart welcomed all mem- bers and guests. Christmas Carols were sung, led by Leona Arm- strong, with Lulu Kerr at the piano. Peggy Cudmore read two humourous Christmas articles. Three of the • 4-H Club leaders, Edna McLellan, The Christmas meeting of Melville Ladies Aid was held at the home of Mrs. Adeline Smith with nine members and one visitor answering the roll, call with verses on Christmas. Ruby Steiss as leader opened the meeting by all singing a song followed by prayer. Lulu Kerr played Christmas carols on her tape recorder, • The secretary- teastirer and sunshine re-, ports were given. A hymn was sung. The Christmas scripture was read by Mrs. Marie Stute and Jane Draper, were special guestg and were thanked by Marie McTaggart for the good work they are doing in teaching homemak- ing to local girls. Each member donated items for the shut-in boxes which will • be packed and delivered soon. Ruby Steiss gave a Christ- mas reading-"The Gift that Santa Forgot". An exchange of gifts brought the meeting to a close. Melville Ladies Aid adjourns tit April Matheson. The prayer by Berva Dennis. Ruby Steiss read thoughts written by Maud Kerr. Ethel Long gave a reading on Christmas. There is to be no meeting again until April. Ruby Steiss ' gave a reading. The meditat- ion was given by Mrs. Matheson. A hymn was sung, and all repeated the benediction. Ethel Long had a cake contest. Lunch was served by Winnifred Edgar and Mrs. King assisted by the hostess and a social time enjoyed.
