Councillor Parker said council should decide right then whether they were going to buy a new fire truck or not. "What is really the matter with the old truck?" asked the reeve. "I've never really looked at it," councillor Parker answered. "We've never made a decision on whether to refurbish the old one. We should either fix that one up or buy something else. Let's make a decision tonight." "I would not make that decision right tonight. I'd like to have someone look over the old one," the reeve said. "Are you going to have a pump mechanic look at it?" "Can't one of the firemen do it?" the reeve asked. 15% - 40% off * CAMERAS & ACCESSORIES • HAIR DRYERS & STYLERS 15%-30% Fire chief Bernard said they had just figured on equipment in the previous year's budget, not such things as heat and lights. Fireman Bridge said that they had been told a few years ago that they would get $200 toward shelving'in the old van and wanted to know whether that offer still stood. Howard Bernard asked if he should get prices on new air packs. "What is required is required. We'd just like to know what it costs," the reeve said. Later on, council got into ra discussion with councillor Stu Parker, council's representa- tive on the fire committee about whether or not the fire department needed a new truck or ISO Paper Towel 2's 1.09 "Crest" tooth paste 150 ml. 1.99 Reg. $2.49 Turtles 14 oz. 5.49 Reg. $6.75 SPECIAL 2.99 ea. - Missing Links Key chain - Magic snake key chain - Pyramid Key Chain - Cube Puzzle - Animal Cube - Fruit Cube Discussion on whether or not to buy a new fire truck took up a great deal of time at Brussels council's regular meeting on Mon- day night. The most lengthy part of the discussion followed a visit from Brussels fire chief Howard Ber,„ -d and fireman Harold Bridge, during which it was learned the fire department had gone $3,741.45 over budget. Reeve Cal Krauter told them there was $5,031.94 in salaries, $2247.33 in supplies, $1022.93 in maintenance, office sdpplies of $4.50, operating expenses of $2675.45 and miscellaneous of $759.34 for putting sewers into the fire hall for a total of $11,741.45. "The revenue budgeted for 1981 for the fire department was$8,000. According to this you spent $3,741.45 too much," the reeve said. "We tlidn't , you did," said Harold Bridge stating that the $700 spent on the sewers wasn't the fire department's idea. "Even if you take sewers off the $11,000, it was a case last year, looking at our year's budget of not knowing where to stop, because we didn't know what was required," the Correspondent MRS. The theme this year, "Happy Easter it's Christ- mas" pointed out if there had been no resurrection, the church would not be celebrat- ing the birth of Christ:If there reeve said. He said in the reserve fund for a new fire truck there was approximately $18,000. "I think in the next year when we're setting the budget, we want you to come in here, sit down and talk it over." "Then you will have a copy of that budget and act accordingly," Harold Bridge also said they had sent an oxygen mask and tank away to get serviced and were told that the mask was over 30 years -old and that parts were no longer available for it. Reeve Cal Krauter told him the mask had been donated to the fire department in 1,/253. The reeve asked the two firemeh if 'they could come up with some sort of estimate for the year of what might be required or not required. "Do you let just anybody look at your car?" councillor Parker asked. Councillor Workman suggested taking the truck up to Graber'S Auto Body for a compression test and the reeve wanted to _know what the hurry was on the firetruck. "What's the hurry? We've been on this since June," councillor Parker said. "I'm not saying we need to buy a new truck," councillor Parker said. Councillor Workman said he heard some- body mention something about a 1970 truck. "A 1970 truck could be in worse shape than the one we've got up there," he said. "There's going to be a buyer for the truck when the right one shows up," he added. "If you say, there's something wrong with it (the fire truck) then let's get it repaired, "councillor Hank Ten Pas said. Communion held Oshawa.
