THE BRUSSELS POST, OCTOBER 14, 1981 — All
Ladies Aid has
alphabet contest
The October meeting of
Melville Ladies Aid was held
at the home of Mrs. Harvey
Dennis with ten members and
one visitor present. The lead-
er for the meeting was Mrs.
Ethel Long who opened the
meeting by all singing Blest
by the tie that binds, followed
by prayer. Ethel Long read A
poem on Autumn. Mrs. Ade-
line Smith read the scripture
from psalm 25 and Elsie
Evans led in prayer. The
hymn "We plough the fields
and scatter" was sung. The
minutes of the previous meet-
ingwere read by Ruby Steiss.
The financial report by Berva
Dennis and the sunshine
report by Ethel Long. The roll
call Was answered by thanks-
giving and verses on Au-
tumn. Mrs. Matheson read a
poem on "Autumn Country-
side." The hymn "All the
way my saviour leads me"
was sung. The November
meeting is to be at 2 o'clock at
the home of Mrs. King Sr.
Ethel Long gave a reading on
Autumn. The meeting closed
with the benediction. The
programme was in charge of
Mrs. Walter Kerr who played
"Sunshine of your smile"
and gave a reading. "The
master is coming today" on

The member of the United
Church Afternoon. Unit met in
the church parlour for the
October 6th meeting.
Mrs. I. Evans read a
Thanksgiving Poem to open
the meeting. The Devotions
were convened by Mrs. R.
Hupfer. The Hymn "Give
praise and thanks unto the
Lord" was sung. The Bible
Study Lesson Psl. 107 was
read in unison followed by
discussion and study on its
meaning for us. "0 give
thanTs unto the Lord for He is
good. His mercy endureth
forever!' is the theme verse
and is repeated four times
throughout the Psalm. We
need to dwell on the character
of Almighty God;. His good-
ness and greatness, His mer-
cy and love are beyond all
measure of man's infigina-
tion. The history of man is
replete with failures and
restorations again and again.
Just as God will turn a
fruitful land into barrenness
because of the sins of the
people, so upon their repent-
ance, He will turn the wilder-
ness into a standing water
and the dry grounds into
watersprings and vineyards.
Only when a nation bows
down itself before God and
repents of its wickedness,
then will God send that kind
of blessing.
Several projects undertak-
en by the Mission and Service
were reviewed, especially
those to help the disabled. A
gape in Japan is doing a great
Work among exchange stu-
dents, Other churches now
hold their services in sign
language for the deaf. The
C,G.I.T. groups are helping
disabled students'to compete
in sports events.
