The Gorrie Women's In-
stitute met at the home of
Mrs. Merrill Fisher.
President Mrs. William
Thornton opened the meeting.
Secretary Mrs. Jas Gray
announced a course of quil-
ting will be held in the near
future in. Gorrie.
A report prepared by Mrs.
Glad Edgar and read by Mrs.
Alvin Grainger, contained a
letter from Mr. Howard,
manager of the Maitland
Conservation Authority, con-
cerning the erection of a
pia que in Gorrie Park in
memory of the late Norman
Wade. Mrs. Edgar announc-
ed a gift of money has been
made by Elmer Farrish from
the sale of the book "History
of Howick Township" to help
in the cost of the memorial
pia .que. Mrs. Merril Fisher
presented the motto. A talk
was given by Mrs. Donald
Watson on micro-wave and
conventional ovens.
Mrs. Jack Ferguson
thanked the speaker and
presented her with a gift.
It was decided to donate
$25 each to Listowel and
Wingham adult workshops.
Mrs. M. Taylor suggested
each member pay $12 to
become a member of the
Huron Historical Society.
Mrs. Taylor also gave a
report of the East Huron
District executive meeting.
Members plan to visit
Huronview on October 28
also to go to see the
Christmas display at the
Erland Lee Home in Dec-
ember.

The Gorrie United Church
Women opened their fall
activities with a meeting in
charge of the World Outreach
committee. The theme was,
"where Love is, God is". A
film illustrating a poor
cobbler's search for God was
shown by Norman Fairies of
the Board of Stewards.
Miss Margaret Dane pre-
sided for the devotions.
Mrs. Melville Dennis read
scripture passage. Mrs
Robert Strong was piamst
and the offering was received
by Mrs. Clifford Pyke and
Mrs. William Thornton.
The president Mrs. Robert
Strong took charge of the
business.
A bale of good clean
clothing will be sent to
Toronto on October 28th,
with materials to be left in
the church hall on October
26th and 27th. The subscript-
ion to the Mandate magazine
was to be renewed. Orders
for the church calendar were
to be taken by the Unit
leaders and reported to the
treasurer, Mrs. Lloyd Jac-
ques.
Members were reminded
of the Fall Regional Rally at
Bluevale on Tuesday evening
Oct. 13th at 7:30 with Mrs.
Audrey Tiffin of Wingham,
An invitation was also
received from the U.C.W. of
McIntosh United Church to
join them in their Thank-
offering service on October
21 at 8:30 p.m.
With much regret the
resignation of the vice-
president Mrs. Robert Har-
per was received. A letter
expressing appreciation for
her work and the regret thlt
she could no longer hold the
office was to be sent to Mrs,
Harper.
