them, are gone. Then there are the little tot, s
who went off to school for the first time. Those
who were well prepared for the adventure,
excited and proud, the shy ones, timid and
reluctant. No doubt there were some mothers
who hid tears as they watched their baby go
off to school. Their days would never be the
same again.
Next week - Brussels Fall Fair, Tuesday
September 15 and Wednesday September 16.
Fall Fairs are a tradition in Ontario. They
provide an opportunity for the whole
community to show their best in friendly
competition from livestock, the products of
farm and field, to flowers, vegetables,
handicrafts, needleware, crafts of all kinds,
the accomplishments of children and organiz-
ations. There will be something for everyone
to admire and enjoy at the Brussels Fair. Visit
the Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening to see
the indoor exhibits and enjoy the entertain-
ment. Watch the school parade on Wednes-
day. Attend the many activities that will take
place at the fair grounds. You will find them
interesting.
It would be wise to stock up on warm
blankets and carry sweaters and clothing this
fall. With the price of fuel oil about to keep
climbing up we will have to find way s to
keep warm while turning the thermostats
down if we do not want to shiver through the
winter or go broke. Too bad we cannot all up
our income as easily as the M.P.s raised their
salaries. The increase in oil prices, and other
things, should not bring a single "peep"
from any one of them. If you have letters that
should be written you should do it now.
Postage on letters, it is said, will increase
from 17 cents to 30 cents in the near future.
After the mail strikers got what they wanted
we are the ones who have to pay for it. Guess
Ma Bell will be the one to profit from it with
folks phoning instead of writing.
Sports fans have had plenty to entertain
them this past week. Canada Cup Hockey,
football, baseball, tennis were all available on
T.V. to date (Monday P.M.) Canada has done
very well indeed in the Canada Cup series not
having lost a game and tieing only one. It
remains to see how well they perform in their
game against U.S.S.R. this Wednesday
night.
Smiles
If school days were the
happiest of your life, you
probably didn't drive the bus.
A man walked into a
millinery shop and pointed to
a hat in the window. "That
red one with the feathers and
berries," he said, "would
you take it out of the window
for me?"
"Certainly, sir," the clerk
said, "we be glad to."
"Thank you very much,"
said the young man, moving
towards the door. "The hor-
rible thing bothers me every-
time I pass by there." "
Sometimes a speech is like
a wheel-- the longer the
spoke, the greater the tire.
