The Brussels Post, 1981-08-19, Page 4Annum CANADA SAVINGS BONDS RATE INCREASED 1018172% • EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1,198110 OCTODER31,1901 With this increase, the annual return on all unmatured Canada Savings Bonds for the year which began November 1, 1980 is 14. 41"1/0— interest at the rate of 111/2% for the first 5 months, 133/4 % for the next 2 months, 161/4 % for the following 2 months and 181/2% for the remaining 3 months. SERIES DATED BEFORE 1977 Series dated before 1977 have a bonus payable at maturity. Holders of these Series will receive the higher rare of return through on increase in the value of this bonus payment. Bondholders may continue to cosh interest coupons each year and be entitled to the cash bonus. al SERIES DATED 1977 TO 1980 INCLUSIVE For these Series the annual rate of 14.41% will apply for the year which began November 1, 1980, instead of the rate printed on the Bond certificates. Each $1,000 Regular Interest Bond will now pay $144.17 interest on November 1, 1981. In addition to regular annual interest at the rate stated above, Compound Interest Bonds will earn compound interest, for the 3 months beginning August 1, 1981, at the rate of 11.33% for the 1977/78 and 1979/80 Series and 11.46% for the 1978/79 Series. MAC ENGEL 887.6645 Mrs. Wilfred Strickler was( hostess for the August meet- ing of the W.M.S. on Wed- nesday evening August 12. Mrs. Strickler opened the meeting with a reading from "These Days". The secretary Mrs. John Vanass read, the minutes and a brief discuss- ion followed on the new study and the Presbyterian visitor who is expected to attend the November meeting and pos- sibly show her books and give a talk. Mrs. Stuart Stevenson gave the topic based on the book "Flame in the Forest" by Dr. Margaret Kennedy. She described life in India, its size and history, beginning from before the birth of Christ and how greatly the popula- tion has increased. The Pres- byterian church has been involved in work in India, and encountered many obstacles, including the caste system, Hinduism and other religious beliefs and customs. This is a very interesting and informa- tive book for anyone to read and members were encourae- ed to read it at home. The roll call was "name a missionary and tell some- thing about them". Refresh- ments were served by Mrs. Vanass and the host ess. PERSONALS Congratulations to Miss Julie MacDonald who obtain- ed first class honours in Grade 8 piano in recent examinations. She is a pupil s of Carol Carter, Seaforth, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Graeme MacDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Engel and family attended the Greidanus-Bolger wedd- ing on August 7th in Holmes- ville United Church and the reception in Goderich Twp. Community Centre. Mrs. Earl Dunn visited in London with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Muchan and wee daught- er. Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Hig- gins, Brussels, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nobel and Mrs. Lloyd Cathers (Vetna Osborne) of Han- over, called on several in the community on Wednesday. Walton unit meets C orrespondent MRS. ALLAN McCALL 887-6677 Eleven members of thel7th and Boundary Unit of the U.C.W. answered the roll call at the July meeting at the home of Mrs. Chas. Glauser. Mrs. Martin Baan opened with a thought for the even- ing. ' Mrs. Hugh Johnston gave the Topic for the evening on "Thanks but no thanks". Collection was taken and prayer closed devotions. Mrs. Graeme Craig presid- for the business. Mrs. Harvey Craig read the min- utes in the absence of secret- ary, Mrs. Helen Williamson. Mrs. Barry Hoegy reported as treasurer and the miscell- llaneous fund was given by Mrs. H. Johnston. The U.C.W. will hold a combined meeting in Sep- tember with all units to attend. A report was given on meals supplied for the Blyth Festival. The meeting was adjounred with a delicious lunch served by the hostess- es. The Walton Institute members will meet at the community hall on Wednes- day, August 26 at 10:30 a.m. for a car trip to Grand Bend to attend a play at the Huron Country Playhouse.
