Brussels fair queen in Miss CNE contest Linda Machan The tenth annual "Miss C.N.E. - Queen Of The Fairs" Pageant beginning with the opening of the Canadian National Exhibition August 19 promises to be better than ever! This year 102 beautiful 'Princesses' representing the various Agricultural Society Fairs throughout Ontario will compete in an expanded three day Pageant. The 1981 "Miss C.N.E. - Queen Of The Fairs" will be chosen Friday, August 21st. She will reign over the C.N.E. until September 7 and will re- present the C.N.E. at various events across Canada until her successor is chosen in 1982. The winner will be crowned at approximately 4:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Miss Brussels, Linda Machan, R.R. 5, Brussels represents the Agriculture Society. Linda is a Graduate of the Behaviorial Science Course at Fanshawe College and is now a Secretary for Victoria & Grey. Her future plans include community involve- ment which she says is very satisfying. She has already done some volunteer work. Linda has participated in sports since she was young and picked up Karate last year. She is 21. Carol Ten Pas One bus load of 66 Brussels area children took swimming lessons at Gorrie Pool this summer. The lessons atarted July 6 and were sponsored by the Brussels Legion Branch 218 and the Brussels Lions Club. Co-operation from the mothers who chaperoned on the bus and at the pool was a appreciated. The group was safely bu sed by Ned Rut. ledge in a Nicholson's bus and we left at 8:30 and were home by 12:00. Many children were suc- cessful in passing their badges.
