His firm's services will cost council about
$5,700. More than half this cost will be for a
preliminary plan.
A tender was accepted from Lavis
Contracting to supply hot mix at $23.49 per
Imperial ton, subject to the Ministry of
Transportation and Communications' ap-
proyal, In addition, council will pay Lavis $29
per hour for a grader. The construction
covers Albert, Maple, Queen, King and
Stret ton streets. Lavis will do some patching
and some full streets. The other tender
considered charged $35.31 per Imperial ton,
and included the cost of the grader.
Council plans to take over responsibility of
the operation of the cemetery from the United
Church, but a by-law must be passed before
this transaction can be finalized. The by-law
had not been received by council before this
week's meeting because of the mail strike, so
could not be passed.
The town has hired a contractor to remove
some old trees. Anyone interested in
purchasing an entire tree for wood can submit
their name to the municipal office. The trees
will be priced according to size. The

Stew Parker,, of the fire committee,
recommended the five fire officers be given,
keys which would open both the firehall and
pumphouse. This would limit the number of
people with access to the pumphouse.
Following some discussion, Cal Krauter and
David Hastings agreed to attend Tuesday's
fire meeting to instruct the five officers in
operation of the pumps.
Councillor Hank Ten Pas directed the
recreation committee's attention to the need.
to repair the drainage system at the arena.
The existing drains don't carry the rain away
fast enough and there is damage being done
to the foundation. It was suggested the three
municipalities involved with the arena might
share the cost of the repairs.
It was brought to council's attention by Mr.
Hastings that the town truck is in bad
condition. Council felt a new truck should be
purchased. As this investment hasn't been
allowed for in the budget, council decided to
postpone this decision.
At the next council meeting, Sept. 14, an
interim report on the council's financial
standing will be presented.
