The Brussels and District
Horticultural Soceity held
their -annual Rose Show in
the library on Saturday af
ternoon, July-4 with a large
crowd attending.
The judges, Mr- and Mrs.
Fielding of Wingham corn-
mended the exhibitors on the
quality of their. -flowers.
There were 80 exhibits in the
19 classes. Drawing a lot of
attention was a large display
of home crafts brought in by
the members. __The large
quantity of baking was in
great demand and soon
disappeared,
Helen. Dobson had the
most points in the rose show
with 23 points, closely fol-
lowed by Isobel Gibson with
22 points. Shirley Wheeler
was third with 18 points. .

Goats new attraction for fair
- The guest book pages were
filling up as a large crowd of
ladies gathered at the Ethel
Community Centre on Tues-
day evening. The event was a
bridal shower in honour of
Bethany Keifer_ whose up-
upcoming marriage to Gor-
don Edgar is to be a July
event.
Mrs. John Van Loo wel-
comed friends, neighbours
and relatives to the shower.
As the bride, her mother
and future mother-in-law
were called to-the front, each
was pinned with a corsage by
Mrs. James Stephenson.
A. prize for the closest
anniversary _date was given
to Rhonda Fischer, the eldest
lady Marguerite. Sanderson
and lucky chair Marjorie
Keifer.. -
A recitation of; The Bridal
Alphabet was given by Mrs.
James McMahon who also on
behalf of the 4th of Grey and
everyone present, wished
Bethany and Gordon future
happiness .in their marriage.
The bride's mother and
various other little helpers
then proceeded to .assist
Bethany in _the opening of
her many gifts.
Bethany's bows and rib-
bons were .ttsed to form an
apron, which she modeled
for all to see. She thanked
everyone and said she hoped
when they were settled, all
would pay a visit.
Lunch was 'served by Mrs.
Archie Jacklin, Ruth Farrish
and their committee of the
helpers.
Bethany then went around
the hall to say a few words to
those who had attended.
On Sunday, June 28th, at
the . Ethel United Church,
during -the morning service,
memorial hymn books were
dedicated in memory of the
late Hazel Ellis.
Alsoriedicated were Hymn
Books in memory of Dr. T.
Hazelwood, Rhea Pestell,
and Miss Lulu Hughes.
Howard Ellis spoke briefly
regarding the memorials.
Rev. Dr. Gordon Hazelwood
of Brussels was the officiat-
ing minister.

Mrs. Edith Wardlaw .of
Brantford has been with
Mrs. Wardlaw.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Alex-
ander have returned home
after a 16 day tour in Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Bray
and Mrs. Annie Bray visited
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Kennedy of Saltford last
weekend,
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Bremner and Doris spent a
few -days at- the cottage last
week, accompanied by Mr.
and Mrs. Geo. Campbell of
$6.; second $4; third $3;
fourth $2. Jack Cardiff is to
be the Director of this
Section.
Further plans were made
for the Dancc on July 18.

An added attraction to the
fair this year will be Earl and
Martha Heywood who will be
performing in the Crystal
Palace on Tuesday evening,
September 15, the first day
of the fair.
Plans were made to fix the
roof on the Palace and do
some cleaning of the
grounds.

added to the prize list of the
Brussels_fair when the Brus-
sels Agricultural Society met
on Monday, June 22 with
nine members present.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Moody,
Cambridge (Preston) visited
on the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Smith and family.

Mich. are spending awhile at
their home here.
Mrs. Ida Gordon and Miss
Jody Miller have returned
from an enjoyable two week
trip to Alaska. They were
