There were approxi- mately 100 people in atten- dance. At 9 the following pro- grams were presented: school choir, duet by April Ten Pas and Dianne Hall; guitar selection by Brad Campbell; Grade 8 skit by Crystal Devlin, Sharon Exel, Patricia Ten Pas, Debl:le Johnston, and Lisa Glanvi, . piano selection by Wendy Martin; step dance by Lisa Glanville and a Highland Dance by Ma jorie Camp- bell. Emily Cousins gave an entertaining reading. it I Scott then introduced the guest of honour and shared a few experiences concerning Mrs. Ireland's teaching car- eer. The staff concluded the program by singing a song written by Mrs. Wilson en- titled "Jeanne Ireland's Re- tirement." BRUSSELS GRADUATES — Graduation exercises for the Grade 8 students of Brussels Public School were held recently. In the front row from left are Kevin McArter, Janis Vernon, Brad Campbell, Angie Harris, Bill Rapson, Debbie Johnston and Jeff Culbert. In the second row are Karen Cowan, Jo-Ann Wright, Kevin Johnston, teacher Doreen Raymond, principal Ken Scott, Lisa Glanville, Pat Currie and Wendy Heibein. Obituary J. J. E. JEWELL John James Edgar Jewell, of 2643 Keels St., Apt. 1, Toronto, a former Brussels resident, died at the Branson Hospital, Toronto on Wed- nesday, July 1. He was born in Logan Township the son of the late Henry and Mary Jane (Stin- son) Jewell and was a plumb- er in his early life. He is survived by his wife, Annie W. Williams and seven daughters Elouise (Jerry), Mrs. Harvey Step- henson of Walkerton, Mrs, Doris Crocker of Halifax, Margaret (Mrs.,Edwin Coop- er) of Clinton, Edith (Mrs. Finlay Samis) of Goderich, Ruth (Mrs. Gerald McArter) of Brussels, Jean (Mrs. George King) of Toronto, Mrs. Mary Beth Darlington of Toronto and two sons, Robert and Jim of St. Cathar- ines. Also surviving are 48 grandchildren and great grandchildren. The body was at the Brus- sels chapel of the M, L. Watts Funeral Home until Saturday, July 4 When fun- eral services Were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. W. Stinson officiating.
