Gorrie
U nit 2 of Gorrie United
Church Women held their
June meeting at the home of
Mrs. Edgar Dane. Eight
members answered the roll
call. Mrs. Cecil Grainger was
in charge of the program and
opened with a hymn and
prayer. Mrs. Grainger read a
portion of scripture from
Romans 11 Chapter.
She took for her theme
Appreciation and support,
given with tenderness to
anyone, adult or child whose
life seems to them to be
nothing but discouragement
and disappointment. Janet
said that the child can suffer
just as deepl y or maybe
more so than an adult.
Maybe he feels left out of
activities.
The, speaker said many of
us, who will never be leaders
in the church can be useful in
this respect.
We can with tenderness
and sympathy fill a role by
simply being a good listener
to ancither's problems and
offering support and encour-
agenient. Anytime, any one
of us can speak an encourag-
ing ward
In the Bible, the speaker
pointed out how young
Joshua needed encourage-
ment and support and Moses
in his tender fatherly manner
gave it and Joshua became a
great leader and King.
Jonathan gave David
support and encouragement
when Saul was hounding
him. In Samuel 23;16 "and
Jonathan arose and went to
David in the wood and
strengthened his hand.
Paul Was greatly helped by
A :qui la and Priscilla when
he became discouraged; and
Romans 16 is devoted to
Paul's appreciative mention
of his fellow Christians.
God must 'be desirous that
we, with tenderness and
encouragetnent support any-
one who is lonely and dis-
tressed, may be even finan-
cially distressed in these
days.
The speaker closed by
saying that warming another
troubled person's heart with
praise and sympathy is more
!Christ-like than chilling one
with criticism. ,
The devotions closed with
hymn and prayer petitioning
Us to be fully aware of God's
plan in our lives. The sick
