MRS, JOE WALKER
"Happy The home When
God. Is There" was the hymn
that opened the May 6th
meeting of the Women's
Missionary Society of Knox
Presbyterian Church. Seven-
teen members met at the
home of Mrs. Jack Jenkins.
Mrs. Alba Mundell read
scripture from John, Chapter
3, Verses 14-21. Mrs, Jen-
kins gave the comments say-
ing, "God gave us life, land,
the ark, the ten command-
ments". He also gave us
freedom, fresh air and plenty
of water, for which we should
be thankful ever day. Alba
read a poem, followed by
prayer.
Business included--discus-
sion of supply fund, Presby-
terial to be in Molesworth on
May 25.
A brief report was given
from one of the five members
that went to the Belgrave
Easter meeting,
Rev. Trites invited the
W.M.S. members to be in
charge of the service Oct 11
to info= all the congrega-
tion the mission work we are
doing.
A talented, gifted mem-
ber , Mrs. Gordon Mundell I
presented our topic by pos-
ing as an African missionary
who had returned to Cape
Town, Africa from Toronto,
Ont. The setting of our
meeting was a group of
African ladies who had invit-
ed Mrs. Mundell to speak at
our meeting during her fur-
lough and tell us of the
Canadian way of life.
She found Toronto to be a
very large city and the Cana-
dian language to be a bur-
don. There were large
churches, some with a good
attendance, so me not. Also,
it is difficult to understand
why some people get so
upset if their service lasts
only a few minutes over one
hour, when ours is 2 or 3
hours. There are many teen
,aged problems such as alco
hol, drugs, no marriage, but
shacking up, single parents
and abortions.
They have huge stores,
called supermarkets. Both
men and women wear pant
suits with the younger people
wearing jeans-. You must
have a sweater because some
times it gets very cold.
They pay baby sitters,
spend more on beauty
parlours and.cosmetics. They
have many expressions of
love. We said good-bye to
our Canadian friends at the
smog surrounded air-port, IT
was so good to come home to
the clean warm air of Africa,
Praise God for clean minds
and fresh air, Money can buy
everything but happiness
Money can buy everthing but
heaven,. Please pray for the
people of Canada, Mrs,
Mundell concluded with a
variation of the 23rd Psalm.
Mrs. Bernard Thomas pre-
sented a life membership to
Mrs. Mundell, thanking her
for her help and contribu-
tions to our meetings in the
past years. Mrs, Mundell
expressed her surprise and
thanks to everyone.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Mundell and Mrs. Jenkins.
