LONG TIME LADIES AUXILIARY MEMBERS
— This year the Brussels Legion Ladies
Auxiliary celebrates its 35th anniversary and on
Wednesday night some of the members were
awarded with their 30 and 35 year pins. From

Lots of participation at Duff's Church
Eight members of the 8th
& 16th unit met at the
Walton Manse Wednesday
evening.
Guests Jack and Mary
Bryans of Brussels gave a
very informative talk and
showed slides of Somalia,
Africa. The total population
is five million; seven percent
of the people of Somalia are
nomads and live quite primi-
tive. The capital of Somalia is
Mogadiscio and 99 percent of
the population are Moslem,
the remainder are Catholic.
There are some Salvation
Army. The average annual
wage is $100 and eggs cost
$3.50 per dozen. There is
very little theft in this
country.
The topic, "We had none
today" was given by Marilyn
McDonald. This article is
about Jack and Mary Scofield
who were United Church
missionaries working in Zarn-
bia, Africa. The people are
working toward an even dis-
tribution of wealth and better
development of their land.
Margery Fraser presided
for the business. Minutes
were read by Lynne. Davies.
Dates were given out for
Thankoffering. An invitation
came from. Presbyterian
Church, Seaforth on April 28.
Plans were made for the
Thankoffering at Walton
United Church on Sunday,
May 3 at 8 p.m. The unit ham
and turkey supper is at the
church on June 2. The
garage and bake sale May 30
at the church to begin at 9
a.m.
Lunch was served by
Margery Fraser and Rev.
Swan.
Mr. and Mrs. Cliff
Hoegy were greeters for the
Easter service Sunday morn-
ing at Duff's United Church.
Mrs. Marion Godkin on the
organ and her daughter
Dianne on the piano playing
a prelude of music preceding
the service. Ushers were
Ross Bennett, .John Huether
and Jack McEwing. The
choir sang the anthem,
"Willing to take the Cross"
Rev. Charles A. Swan took as
his sermon, "Go tell Peter".
The Easter lilies in the
sanctuary were given to shut
ins after the service. Next
Sunday is baptismal.

The annual meeting of
the Walton Women's Insti-
tute was held Wednesday
April 15th. 25 ladies attend-
ed the supper at the Olympia
Restaurant in Brussels first.
Mrs. Keith Rock presided
for the business in the ab-
sence of the president, Mrs.
H. Hudie. The roll call was
answered by paying dues
and revealing Sunshine
Sisters. All showed off their
gifts and thanked the givers.
Two new members, Marg-
aret Shortreed and Valerie
Shortreed were welcomed to
the Institute.
Minutes of the last annual
meeting and financial report
was read by secretary trea-
surer, Mrs. Jim Axtmann.

by Mrs. Alvin McDonald.

voted that the tables and
chairs not leave the hall and
speakers be paid the same as
last year.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bol-
ger are caretakers of the hall
with the rent left the same. It
was decided not to have a
Sunshine Sister for the corn-
ing year.
Hall board committee is
the president. sec.-treas.,
along with Mrs. N. Marks,
Mrs. L. Godkin and Mrs. A.
McCall. Panelling and a new
ceiling has been completed
in the basement this winter.
A donation was made to the
Brussels Fair Board. A plan-
ning meeting to make up the
programs will be held in the
hall on Monday evening,
April 27 at 8 p.m.

spent the Easter weekend
