THE BRUSSELS POST, APRIL 15, 1981 — A5 Gorrie Crowd at euchre WI names exec CREWEL EMBROIDERY DISPLAY—Crewel embroidery was a course offered by the Majestic Women's Institute this year and at the annual meeting of the institute a display of the finished projects was shown. Kate Wilson and Isabel Adams, (absent when the picture was taken) were the instructors of the course which was started by 22 students and completed by 18. (Photo by Ranney) A Pot Luck dinner brought the Majestic Women's Institute together for their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 8. Doris McCall introduced the head table guests including guest speaker, Almeda Smythe from Strat- ford, who is the Public Relations Officer for the Guelph Area; and Marjorie Humphries from Walton who is theDistrict President. The 4-H Club leaders during the year were intro- duced by Marie McCutcheon and presented with gifts by Kate Wilson. Isabel Adams and Mrs. Wilson reported on the Crewel Emboidery course which is now completed, and said that 22 ladies had started, with 18 ladies finishing the course. All of the finished pieces were on display. The guest speaker, Mrs. Smythe took as her theme "A time to laugh, a time to share, a time to grow." Mrs. Smythe was thanked by Marie McTaggart. Leona Armstrong led in a Sing Song of some good spring songs, with Lulu Kerr at the piano. An invitation was received from the Ethel Women's Institute, to attend "A Taste of the Wild" to be held May 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the Ethel Hall. Doris McCall reported on the Canadian Cancer Canvas, and said that over 20 canvassers are out in the area. A Dessert Euchre will be held April 27 at 7:00 p.m. with proceeds to go to the Canadian Cancer Society. Each member is to bring a dessert. Delegates to the District Annual on May 12 at Bluevale are Peggy Cudmore, Doris McCall, Eleanor Hemingway and Marie McTaggart. Two duets were sung by Mrs. Jan Van Vliet and Dorothy Steffler. The following members gave reports on the past year-- Alice McArter for Agriculture and Canadian Industries; Ida Evans for Family and consumer Affairs.; Ruby Steiss for Education and Cultural Activities; Jane DeVries for Citizenship and World Affairs; Kathleen Danby for Sunshine; • Eleanor Hemingway for the Curators; Marie McCutcheon for Public Relations; and Jane DeVries and. Wilma Hemingway gave the Auditors' Report. A reminder to the members that the Area Convention will be held this year in Brussels on October 22 and 23 which will be attended by approximately 500 ladies. Billets will be needed, for one night. An executive meeting will be held April 20 at 2:00 p.m. to plan next year's program. Next regular meeting is May 13 at 8:00 p.m, The euchre party on Saturday evening sponsored by the Gorrie Hall Board was well attended with over 55 attending. Winners were Ladies-Mrs. Wm. Mundell, Bluevale; Mrs. Bert Hub- bard and for the Men winners were Gene Porter, VVingham add Jas. Warrell of Fordwich. Lucky Card was won by Gordon Walker, of Wingham. Mr. and Mrs, Allan Hynd- man accompanied by Mrs. Fred Hyndman of Geri-Care. Harriston visited Mr. Fred Hyndman ip Palmerston Nursing Home on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. George Brown spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mulloy Jr. of Paris. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gra- ham and Bill Graham of -London visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gra- ham and Genevieve Anne of Kitchener.
