Bantams in finals near Kingston The annual curling ban- quet was held at the Brussels Morris, and Grey Commun- ity Centre on Saturday April 4. It was catered by the I3.M.&G. catering group (Roast beef with the all the trimmings.) Among the guests present was Murray Cardiff, (M.P. for Huron-Bruce) who was invited to speak briefly to the group. He said it was the "First meal with his family for awhile" in his busy schedule. Songs led by Don McDon- ald with lyrics about curling were sung "to get everyone in the mood." Fred Uhler thanked every- one responsible for making his year as president so successful. Minutes of the 1980 annual meeting were read. The fin- ancial and Auditors reports were given. Trophies were given to the top four winning teams on each draw, with some members receiving more than one trophy. Junior curlers were awarded their tropies. Jack Bryans com- mented that not once was any junior curler rude to him while he was supervising the junior curling Monday after- noons. Also when help was needed no one refused to help among the senior curl- ers. The overall winners for the Juniors were: Wayne Hig- gins- skip; Kerry Bauer- vice; Steven Marks- second; Kendra Fischer- lead. The D.A. Rann trophy. going to the team with the highest points for the season was awarded to Stewart Steiss' team with 52 points. Aggregate 53 (Ernie Lewing- ton, also with 52 points, had an aggregate of 50). With Stewart for 'this draw was Marie Van Keulen, Annette Lewington and Doug Hoegy. Norman Hoover, who has curled with Brussels for many years and who has been the Secretary-Treasurer for 12 yrs., has decided to retire from the Secretary- Treasurer position. (Not from curling though.) Because he had never won anything be- fore, a trophy was presented to him for his many years of sevice to the club. In his speech, he said he "got to know a lot of people" by curling. In New Business it was decided not to join the Ontar- io Curling Association which is necessary for competitive curling, such as the "Silver Broom." It was decided to leave the dates (Tues-or going back to Mondays) for the Bonspiels to the new executive to decide. The substitution rule for spares and default was left as is. However, the new presi- dent had some strong opin- ions on this subject so in the future there may be s changes. Mervyn Bauer invited everyone to attend the meet- ing 'April 13th in the upstairs room at the arena at 8 p.m. to discuss the possibility of a new curling rink in Brussels.
