Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Coulter of Kitcheper visited Saturday with relatives in the village. Mrs. Maurice Irvine (nee Peggy Carson) and Meagan of Brockville visited Sunday and Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Carson. She was predeceased by her first husband Charles Middleton in 1960 and by her second husband, Robert Stone in 1970. Surviving arc two broth- ers, ForrestWhittard of Lon- don and Earl Whittard of St. Catharines; one step- daughter, Ilene Kirkey of London; one step-son Jack Stone of Listowel and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers Harold and Ross and one sister, Mildred Self. SCOTT SPEAKS The United Church Fel- lowship renewal service was held in the Gorrie United Church on Tuesday evening at 8:15 p.m. with approxi- mately 45 attending. Rev. Robert Clyde of Bervie led the devotions. Rev. Robert Scott of Lond- esboro was the speaker and told of his experience in becoming a Christian and also sang several solos. JOE WALKER 357-3558 Mrs. Glen Colley opened the Easter Thankoffering of the Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 29 and welcomed the guests from Belmore, Bluevale United and Wingham. Tracey Day, Sandra Moffatt, Bonnie Perry and Joanne Shaw played their ukuleles and sang. Mrs. Glenn Snell read scripture from St. Matthew and Romans with Mrs. Harry Elliott giving the comments, Mrs. Burns Moffatt offered prayer. An invitation has been received from Belgrave W. M . S. to attend their W.M.S. meeting on April 6 at 2 p.m. Plans were made for a bake, plant and bulb sale in the church basement on April 4 at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Robt. McMurray in- troduced the special guest, her son, Bob McMurray of London who has been blind for about 10 years. He told of various stages a person pro- gresses through when you learn of a handicap. Identity, depression, anger and frus- tration arc the feelings which you have to accept before a rehabilitation centre can really help you. Finding a purpose in life is the first step. Companion- ship is essential and he urged people to speak freely to handicapped people, blind people. Blind people see through our eyes. He explained how they learn to handle money, read Braille, use a cane by sound. Some also learn to sew, knit, use dictaphones and type- writers. Their equipment is expensive and is not pro- vided by the Dona- tions should be ear-marked for specific areas or they do not help the blind, only administrative purposes. Bob enjoys card games with a Braille deck, is an ardent curler and golfer and also enjoys lawn bowling. He has a very active, prosperous and rewarding life, saying his blindness is not a handi- cap, just a nuisance. Mrs. Gordon Mandell ex- pressed appreciation to Bob and presented him with a gift.
