There are people who question the need
Of the Cancer Society for additional funds at
this time. They do not Understand why there
should be a cancer canvass in April after the
tremendous response of the Canadian
people to the herdic Marathon of Hope of
Terry Fox. The money from this, by Terry's
own request, is to be used for special
research projects that otherwise would not
be undertaken in Canada, Marathon of 1-lope
funds are not to be confused with funds for
regular research, patient dare and public
education for which financial donations are
placed the call, Mr. Workman himself
spotted the tire as he was coming home from
Brussels. A water tanker from Blyth was also
called to the scene.

It is springtime and we can expect bicycles
here, there, and everywhere. Many young-
sters are not reckless in the use of their
bikes, or careless, but there are always some
who are, Other young children, whose bikes
are something new for thetn, do not know
how to handle them properly. They are not
really aware of the rules of bike riding or of
the dangers they might encounter. Drivers
and pedestrians should be alert and Use
caution when children on bicycles are in
,their vicinity. Motorist must be tested on
traffic laws, signs and signals before they
are allowed on the road, No such examina-
tion is required for cyclists, It is up to
parents to be sure their youngsters are
aware of such things before they allow them
to ride their bikes on streets and roads if
they expect them to ride safely and not
become involved in what could be a serious
accident,

The proposal sparked one of the most
impassioned debates during last week's
meeting of the county council.
The smokers were championed by Cal
Krauter, the cigarette-puffing reeve of
Brussels. who declared it's up to him and
nobody else to decide whether he smokes
and where.
If the majority outlaws smoking in the
council chambers, it will haN e to be prepared
to hold council meetings in the men's room,
because that's where all the smokers will be
clustered, he warned.
He also said you can educate people not to
