The Grey Tovniship Fire Department answered the call to the fire which broke out shortly after 9 p.m., according to fire chief Gordon Engel. They do not Understand why there should be a cancer canvass in April after the tremendous response of the Canadian people to the herdic Marathon of Hope of Terry Fox. The money from this, by Terry's own request, is to be used for special research projects that otherwise would not be undertaken in Canada, Marathon of 1-lope funds are not to be confused with funds for regular research, patient dare and public education for which financial donations are placed the call, Mr. Workman himself spotted the tire as he was coming home from Brussels. A water tanker from Blyth was also called to the scene. Although the cause of the fire is not known at present,. Mr. Workman said that the fire seems to have started in the nursery. In a determined effort to clear the air in the council chambers, the executive commit- tee introduced a recommendation that smoking be banned there as of April 1. However, the recommendation was voted down, 17 to 11. The proposal sparked one of the most impassioned debates during last week's meeting of the county council. The smokers were championed by Cal Krauter, the cigarette-puffing reeve of Brussels. who declared it's up to him and nobody else to decide whether he smokes and where. If the majority outlaws smoking in the council chambers, it will haN e to be prepared to hold council meetings in the men's room, because that's where all the smokers will be clustered, he warned.
