The Public Speaking Con-
test for Brussels Public
School was held on Wednes-
day, February 25th in the
school auditorium. A number
of parents were present.
The judges were Karen
Eldridge, an occasional
teacher in the Brussels area;
Bob McCall, Superintendent
of Education in charge of
curriculum for the Huron
County Board of Education;
and Sinclair Wardrop, Eng-
lish and Geography teacher
at F.E. Madill Secondary
School in Wingham. The
judges met with all the
speakers at the conclusion of
the contest, providing sug-
gestions for future speaking
engagements.
The following is a list of
the speakers, topics and
winners; Grade 4 - Tim
Dillow, N. H L ; Corrinna
Stephenson, Chi Chee Maun;
Marjorie Campbell, Chickens.
Winner was Tim Dillow.
Grade 5 Judy Ten Pas,
My Trip to Florida; Cindy
Bernard, Physical Fitness;
Gary Martin, The Missing
Hockey Bag. Winner was
Judy Ten Pas.
Grade 6 - Jacquie McCut-
cheon, Colonel Harland San-
ders; Carol Ten Pas, The
Larproms; Karla King, Ner-
vousness. The winner was
Karla King.
Grade 7 - Nancy Exel ,
Baby Sitting; Michael Bridge
Airplanes; Shawn Bremner,
Sportscasters. Winner was
Nancy Exel.
Grade 8 - Kevin Johnston,
My Latest Venture in Farm-
ing (Sheep); Wendy Martin,
A New Way of Life; Melinda
Hamilton, My First Game of
Ringette. Winner was Me-
linda Hamilton.
Overall Grade 4, 5, and 6
winner: Karla King. Runner-
up: Jacquie McCutcheon.
Overall Grade 7 and 8
winner: Melinda Hamilton.
Runner-up: Wendy Martin.
The overall winners and
the runner-up speakers will
represent Brussels Public
School in a Speak-off with
Grey Central Public School
The students were coached
by Mr. Morton, Ms. An-
onech, Mr. Prior, Mrs. Cou-
sins and Mrs. Raymond. Mr.
Scott mentioned at the con-
test that the interest and help
provided by the parents was
most valuable.

wich Nursing Home Sunday.

vey Adams took cousin Nan-
cy Black of Oban Argyle,
Scotland to call on relatives
in Toronto Sunday prior to
her departure from Malton
Airport for Scotland.
The World Day of Prayer
will be held in St. Stephen's
Anglican Church on March 6
at 2:30 p.m. The ladies of
Knox Presbyterian, St. And-
rews Presbyterian k Moles-
worth and United Church will
also take part. All are
welcome.

the death of Henry Purdon,
83, son of the late Robert and
(Mary Taylor) Pu [don of
Walpole, Saskatchewan and
formerly of Whitechurch.
Kin Canner, Jamestown
and Rae Tout of Palmerston
visited Saturday with Mrs.
Marie Schmidt.
Mr. and Mrs. Roland
Bennett returned recently
from a bus trip to Louisville,
Kentucky and Nashville Ten-
nessee. They visited the
Louisville Farm Show and
Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
The bus trip was sponsored
by James Harkness of Har-
riston and 44 people enjoyed
the tour.

Brown spent the weekend at

Norman Mulloy of Paris.
