PEE WEE'S
The Brussels Pee Wee's
were in a tournament in
Mitchell on the weekend with
Brussels winning the "C"
Championship. In the first
game Brussels defeated the
Mitchell team 5-1. Scoring
the score sheet did indeed
show that Ernie's team had
the most points at 42 1/2 . His
vice was Maria Van Keulen;
second- Edythe Warwich and
lead- Larry Bray. It then
appeared that Fred Uhler's
team had second prize with
401/2 points. Then it was
discovered that another of
Dan Pearson's games which
was won was actually a loss
due to a rule the Brussels
Curling Club has on default.
The rule is as follows: A
spare must play lead posi-
tion. If there are no spares
they play lead and second
positions. Therefore, a spare
might not play the position of
the team member for who he
or she is a spare. Any
member of the original team
may move up to skip if the
skip is absent but a spare
may not skip. A team, de-
faults when more than two
spares are used. A team may
not play with less than three
people, two of which are
regular members. A default
is scored as nine points for a
win and 0 points for a loss,
regardless of the actual score
of the game as it was played.
There is no aggregate for the
Winner by default.
This rule gave Murray
Huether's team a win by
default. This brought. Murray
And his team up to 401/2
points--a tie with Fred
Uhler's team for second
place. Fred's aggregate was

Everyone did quite Veil
with about 14 of the 20 tams
earning 30 points or more.
Even those teams hitting
rock bottom "seemed to have
a good time as some scores
were relatively close in the
game, regardless or winning
or losing. Hopefully every-
one enjoyed the January
draw as it was something a
bit different from the usual.
