With winter all around us,
our residents are engag-
ed in many indoor activities.
Attendance at our "Fun &
Fitness" groups remains
high as our residents main-
tain their fitness levels
though exercise programs
desigrfed to meet their spec-
ific needs.
Elsie Shaw was our Jan-
uary bingo champion.
George Hislop took the
men's bowling trophy and
Beatrice Cardiff won the
ladies' competition.
The January birthday par-
ty was put on by the ladies
from the Melville Presbyter-
The evening unit of the
Brussels U.C:W. met at the
name of Rene Richmond on
February 4th.
President Karen Cardiff
welcomed everyone, and
thanked Rene for the invita-
tion to meet in her home. She
then read a story on "How to

Olive Dunbar & Ethel Small-
don celebrate their birth-
days. After performing a
square dance, to everyone's
delight, the ladies formed a
kitchen utensil band. The
afternoon was highlight-
ed when Kendra Shortreed
and Laura Douma, both three
years old, entertained is
with some songs. Afterward,
the ladies served refresh-
ments.to everyone. It was, a
party that our residents
won't soon forget!
We were pleased to be
awarded a 2 year accredit-
ation certificate from the
Canadian. Council of Hospital
make 1981 a special year".
Secretary Joan Bernard
read the minutes of the last
meeting, and the roll call was
answered by 12 members
and one guest, with a verse
about Love. The Valentine
party for the nursing home,-
and having current events
Study of Psalm 96.
Marie McTaggart
convened the study entitled.
"Facing up to Love." Love
will always find a way to
combat loneliness she said,
and so many alternatives
such as resentment, hostility
hatred and indifference.
Rev. Wittich was unsec-
cessful getting to the Sunday
morning service; however,
we were fortunate to have
Cecil Skinner who filled in
nicely and preached an excel-
lent sermon. The Huronview
choir sang two selections.
Somebody Is Praying For
You, and Waiting On Jesus.
We had a special treat on
Sunday afternoon. In spite of
the stormy weather the St.
Andrews United Church
choir from Bayfield minister-
ed to us in song. The
programme consisted of old
gospel songs and were much
enjoyed by those who attend-
ed. We recorded the pro-
gramme on the video and
those who missed attending
on Sunday afternoon have,
now seen the video. We
would like to thank Rev.
Thomas, Mrs. Molly Cox,
and the Bayfield choir for the
lovely afternoon.
Old Tyme Music was held
in Normal Care Sitting Room
Accreditation. There are 28
accredited Nursing Homes in
Ontario,
On the 27th of January,
the Volunteers of Callander
Nursing Home met to discuss
the ongoing activities pro-
vided for our residents and
also future programming.
The meeting was well at-
tended with 14 people pre-
sent. Reports were made by:
Debbie Trollope, who talked
about our present activities;
Bev Cardiff, on the Bible
Study program she conducts
with Mary Hiese; Mrs. Peter
Flemming on the monthly
worship service/hymn-sing
provided by the Blyth Sing-
ers; Eleanor Hemingway, on
about happenings within the
United Church were then
discussed. Karen then turn-
ed the meeting over to the
programme committee, Rene
and Joan.
A poem about "Love" was
given by Joan. Cindy Ber-

suggested.
Dorothy Steffler who was a
delegate to the Annual meet-
ing at Brucefield reported on
the program there. Prayer
brought the meeting to a
close.

our dietitian' Mrs. Betty Rog-
ers leading the residents' in a
hymn sing. Ed Stiles was at
the organ on Tuesday after-
noon and played many fav-
ourites of the residents. The
ladies on first North along
with a few brave men tuned
up the rhythm band instru-
ments in time to the music
from our stereo player.
Rev. Clark from Goderich
conducted Bible Study in the
chapel on Thursday after-
noon.
Many heart-shaped cook-
ies were baked in the craft
room this past week to be
enjoyed on St. Valentines
Day, by the residents, and
guests.
Mrs. Elsie Henderson
played the piano and enter-
tained the Over 90 Club this,
past week. Valentine Cookies
and tea were served at the
close.
Sympathy, is expressed to
the family of Ada Craig. Ada
was in her 93rd year.

Cudmore and Laura Lucas;
and Betty Graber and Janis
Acheson on future activities.
Janet Boyhton will be our
Volunteer Co-ordinator, once
we have a workable Volun-
teer Service set up. The
meeting was very informa-
tive and the feedback from
those present was pertinent
and helpful. Another Volun-
teer Service meeting will be
held in early spring. Our
guest speaker will be Mrs.
'Helen Twiddy, President of
the Ontario Nursing Home
Volunteer Association
(0.N.H.V.A).

and Rene led in prayer. A
very informative talk was
given by Evelyn Demaray On
Marriage Encounter, after
which a short discussion took
place.
Joan concluded the devo-
tions with a short reading. A
tasty lunch was served by
Rene & Karen.
The new executive for 1981

Demaray; Secretary-Joan
Bernard; Treasurer-Nelva
Scott; Pianist-Betty Camp-
bell; Assistant Pianist-Larke
Mcdonald; and Press Re-
porter-Betty Campbell.
On, Monday, February 2,
Mrs. Jean Lamont hosted a
birthday get-together in
honour of Maggie Rutlege's
89th birthday. Following
cake l ice-cream, and birthday
pictures, Maggie was pre-
sented with a beautiful Cy-
clatnen from neighbours and
friends.
Those in attendance for
the occasion were: Kitty and
Doreen Rutledge, Jean Old-
field, Marguerite Stretton,
Agnes Ten Pas, Eva Keffer,
Kathleen McWhirter, Stella
Clark, Elaine Nichol, Martha
Logan, Isobel Janes, Bonnie
Pennington and Nancy Cur-
rie.

the Ethel Community Hall on
February 2nd sponsored by

Fraser arc holidaying this
week in Jamaica. Their
daughter, Cheryl is staying
with the Mitchell s while
they are away.
