The annual meeting of the
Howick Agricultural Society
was held at the Community
Centre.
In his president's address
Stewart Rowley stated that
the society had a successful
year in 1980. Some of the
new features of the Fair
included, a parade, the log
sawing and entertainment on
Friday evening and the Opt-
imist programme, all of
which have proven to be
successful contributions to
the Fair.
Mr. Rowley also said that
the new building is complete-
ly free of debt and a new
roadway from the school to
the Community Centre is
completed. This roadway will
be used by the shool children
during skating programs in
the winter months and will
be used for the Parade on
Fair day. October 2 and 3 are
the dates of the 1981 Fair.
Memberships will remain at
$2.
The 0.A.A S. Convention
will be held at the Royal York
Hotel, Toronto on February
18 and 19. Presidents of the
Men. 's and Ladies' divisions
were named to attend on
behalf of the society.

The officers were returned
for second terms. They are:

At a recent meeting of the
lady directors, Mrs. Agla and
Mrs. L. Murray were re-
turned for their second term
of office as president and
vice president of the ladies'
division, Two new lady dir-
ectors representing the How-
ick Junior Women's Institute
Mrs. M. Greig and Mrs. K.
Lockie, were also appointed
at this time as well as Mrs.
Roy Kennedy of Fordwich.

The Gorrie Senior Citizens
"Come Alive Club" enjoyed
a smorgasbord supper at
their first January meeting
with over 30 attending, after
which Mrs. Melville Dennis
conducted the business in
the absence of the president.
Mrs. Sheldon Mann read a
poem on "Howick" written
by Mike Mann, and Mrs.
Glad Edgar read an essay
written on "Howick"by San-
dra Gedcke1 both pupils at
Howick Central School. Mrs.
Mann introduced the guest
speakers Russell and Leo
Ruttan who told of their trip
14.1.1-lowick in Australia.
Mrs. Glad Edgar thanked
them on behalf of the Seniors
and presented them 'with
gifts.

A.R. Mills of Crawford,
Mill, Davies and Flston, the
Wingham law firm, was
guest speaker when the
Howick Junior Women's In-
stitute met in the Howick
Central School.
Mr. Mill spoke on wills
and estates.
He was introduced by
Myrna Pinny and thanked by
Joanne Stolz.
President Joyce Lockie ,
conducted the business. The
Howick Junior Institute will
canvas for the Heart Fund in
February and hope for a good
response.
The next meeting on Feb-
rary 19 will be the group's
anniversary meeting.

January meeting of the Mait-
land Valley Region of the
Historical Automobiles Soci-
ety of Canada. The meeting
was held in the Neustadt
Community Centre with over
25 attending. Laverne Fel-

conducted the business.
