Grey Township council employees and
councillors received a 10 per cent pay
increase across the board Tuesday.
The Reeve's salary was increased from
$1300 to $1430, the deputy-reeve's salary
was increased from $1,000 to $1,200, and
councillor's salaries went from $1,000 to
$1,100. The clerk-treasurer's salary was
increased from $16,500 to $18,150 with .the
car allowance going from $1,000 to $1,100.
The road superintendent's salary is now $14,
190 up from $12,900.
Hourly rate increases included the grader
operators from $6.75 to $7.45 per hour,
office staff from $4.55 to $5.00. The road
labour will remain at $5.50 for the present
but as of April 1 will go to $6.00. The wage
for the waste disposal site attendant was
raised from $5.50 to $6.00 per hour.
Wages for the livestock valuers remained
at $15. a visit and 13 cents a kilometre
mileage, $40. a day for the fenceviewers.
The building inspector got a raise from $14.
to $15 per visit.
Firemen who used to get $7 for practise
will now get $7.70 and for the first hour of a
fire will get $6.60 as compared to $6. and for
the second hour and every hour thereafter
will get from $5.50 to $6.05 and for special
meetings will get $25..
On Saturday, January 24, the trustees and
the secretary of the police village of Ethel
met with Peter Jackson of the Ministry of
Intergovernmental Affairs for the signing of
the by-law requesting that application be
made to the OMB to dissolve the police
village of Ethel. On Tuesday, Grey Township'
Council passed a motion concurring with the
by-law to dissolve the police village.
Storm didn't
stop rally
Despite stormy weather,
approximately 200 people
attended the Walton
Snowmobile Poker Rally on
Sunday.
399 poker hands were
given out with Cathy
McGavin of Walton getting
the first prize of $50 and a
trophy with her winning
hand of four kings. Ann Ryan
of Walton in second place got
$40 and a trophy for her hand
of four queens.' Laverne
Godkin was third with a full
house winning $35. Fourth
prize went to Paul McCall
and fifth prize went to Betty
Glanville of Walton. They
both had full houses and won
trophies and $35 and $20
respectively.
The stormy weather did
create problems with
visibility and everybody was
"soaking wet," according to
Walton Area Sports Club
treasurer Jo-Ann McDonald.
The rally which was
supposed to start at 11 a.m.
got delayed until 12:30.
There were 204 door prizes
given out.
Correction
If you thought Leona
Armstrong's appearance had
changed when you looked at
last week's Post, it was
because that was a picture of
Leona McDonald who was
recently elected as president
of the ladies' division of the
Brussels Agricultural
Society. The Post apologizes
to both women for the error
and any inconvenience it may
have caused.
