PERSONAL
Mr. Jim Shortreed of
Huronview spent a couple of
days last week with Mrs.
Shortreed at his home in the
Madill Mirror
We have been bombarded
with Christmas since
November. It may sound
almost sacreligious to
interpret Christmas as a
burden but the fact remains
that people are finding it
extremely difficult to "get
into the spirit of the season."
Maybe broaching this
subject is just another re-
minder that Christmas is
becoming an expensive
investment. The people who
suggest we drop, it from our
calenders are more serious
than we realize.
.But back in my cluttered
brain something is trying to
nudge it's way to the surface
of my memory; something
about the real meaning of
Christmas. Don't sigh, I
know you all know about the
"shining star" and "Peace
on Earth, Goodwill To Men",
that's old hat. Wait a minute
though, not so fast, surely
the real, true meaning can be
found in one of the oldest
stories in the world.
I believe the meaning
comes in the form of a gift
that is the most valuable in
the world. It would be perfect
for Mum and Dad, your
brother and sister, the
neighbour next door, even
the person •- who has
everything. The baby, Jesus,
received it and you yourself
have had it too. No matter
how much a person has
already, he will certainly
appreciate more. It really
doesn't cost that much,
perhaps a small 'sacrifice of
yourself and a little tending
each day. It can bring a
smile to the saddest face or
make the poor, richer than
they could have dreamed. It
will be , as year round gift,
coveted in everyone's heart t
makes things a little brighter
and problems a little easier
to handle.
The gift of course is love
and see you knew it all along.
Have a very Merry
ChriStmas and remember as
the late John Lennon said
"all you need is love".
