W.M.S. of .Knox Church,
Thete was an attendance of '
15 members,. 6 visitors, and
several children: Mrs,
Wilfred. Strickler opened the
meeting with a Christmas
verse. Mrs, Stanley Fischer
read a verse and led in
prayer.' Mrs. Leslie Knight
led in carol singing.
The Scripture Luke 1-12
was, read in unison and the
meditation was given by
Mrs. Clare Veitch. The
minutes were read by the
secretary Mrs, John Vanass
and 'the treasurer's report by.
Mrs. Veitch.
It was .agreed ,to pay the
balance on new hymn books -
purchased with a. cash
donation by a friend. Sunday
School • supplies we:e dis-
cussed and the Ladiell Aid
will contribute the'amount

Zurich reeve Fred Haberer was named.
Huron. County warden at county council's
inaugural meeting recently in one of the
tighter races in recent years.
Mr. flaberer, a Zurich businessman, won
the warden's seat by defeating Reeve Harold
Robinson of Howick Township 16 votes to 15
votes on the first
The Zurich.reeve's election means this is
the third consecutive year the county warden
has. come from the 'South Huron area. ,The
former' waidens'wete Hay •Township, reeve
Jack Tinney in . 1979 and Bill Motley of
Usborne Townsip last year.
The council members who supported
Haberer in the warden's 'race included

Kate Wilson reported on the
Reeve,. Don MacGregor were among those
who voted for Reeve Robinson in the
warden's contest.
After being nominated by Bob Bell, Mr.
Haberer said while he 'realized Huron was
Primarily an agricultural area, some form of
industrial expansion was necessary if Huron
was going to keep a larger number of its
young people. A proper balance of'growth is
necessary,, the Zurich reeve said, and added
he believed this could be achieved without
harm, being done to the county's , prime
,agricultural land.
One ,area where increased employment
opportunities might 'lie is fir tourism, he told
county council.
After presenting the. new, warden with bis
gavel and warden's lapel pin, 'retiring
warden Bill Morley said he was proud to
have represented the county in 1980 and that
highlights of the year included the opening-
' of the new Huron County Library building'
and the visit of former Ontario Lieuntenant-
Governor Pauline McGibbon.
Many homes already have
very attractive Christmas
displays and lights and there
will undoubtedly be more.
The residents of. the Call-
ander Nursing Home will be
making a bus tour of the'
village on Monday, Decem-
ber 22nd that they may see'
the festive displays.
The tour will bp made .at
6:30 p.m. so be sure your
lights are on so they may
enjoy them.
CWL' enjoys
social
The St. Ambrose C.W.L.
held a very enjoyable
Christmas social recently.
Following' several games
and a carol sing song Santa
and Mrs. Claus paid us a
visit with treats for all.
At the successful bazaar
held recently the winners of
the draw were hooked rug;
Mrs. Klaas deJong, Blyth
Afghan: -Leo Deitner, Ethel;
Quilt: Mrs, R. Skinner,
Stratford.
Members donated items
for the Shut-In ' boxes which
will be packed and delivered.
Carol singing was ,enjoyed
with Leona Armstrong lead-
ing and with VVilma.Heming-
way at the piano.
Crevvel Embroidery course
which will begin after New
Guest speaker was Mrs..
Grace Sargent who showed
slides of the Yukon, taken
when she and her husband,
Rev. Dan Sargent were living
there. These slides were
most interesting.

Approximately 171 people from Huron
County checked out their property tax
assessments when open houses were held in
the various municipalities recently.
In Brussels, 13 property tax assessments
were discussed, in Mortis Township there
were seven and in Grey there were 13.

Assessment office said they didn't anticipate
as,great a turnout this year as last year,
because they have dealt with far more
people than just the ones who attended the
open houses, After tax bills were 'sent out,
during the course of the year, people would
call the assessment office to discuss their
assessment, if there ',was something they
didn't understand about it.
