(Photo by Rannev) American steers weaken market The market at Brussels Stockyards •started off active on steers on Friday and weakened later in the day with pressure from the arrival of American steers. Heifers traded steady, cows and pigs sold sharply higher. There •were 1064 cattle and 2482 pigs on offer. Choice Steers - 81.00 to 85.00 with sales to 89.75. Good Steers - 78.00 to 81.00. Two fancy steers consigned by Greg and Steve Wheeler of Brussels averaging 1170 lbs. topped the market at 89.75. A steer consigned by Dave Wheeler of Brussels weighing 1080 lbs. sold for 87.75 with his 29 steers averaging 1199 lbs. selling for an overall price of 84.75. Seven steers consigned by L & B Farms of Wallenstein averaging 1112 lbs. sold for 83.10 with their lot of 12 steers averaging 1195 lbs. selling for 82.70. • Two steers consigned by Emerson Mitchell of R.R. 3, Walton averaging 1155 lbs. sold for 83.60 with his lot of 29 steers averaging 1125 lbs. selling for an overall price of 82.00. Eleven steers consigned by Douglas Wagg of R.R. 5, Mitchell averaging 1240 lbs. .sold for an overall price of 82.60. Eleven fancy , steers consigned by George Drost of Drayton averaging 1285 lbs. sold for 83.15. Five steers consigned by Gerald Ball of Embro. averaging 1164 lbs. sold for 83.00 with his 136 steers averaging 1055 lbs. selling for an overall price of 81.85. Choice Heifers - 76.00 to 80.00 with sales to 84.00. Good Heifers - 73.00 to 76.00. A heifer consigned by Jack Flanagan of Dublin weighing 1220 lbs. sold for 84.00 with his, load of 47 heifers averaging 1084 lbs. selling for an overall price of 80.70. A heifer consigned by Gordon Dougherty of Goderich weighing 1070 lbs. sold for 83.75 with his lot of 10 heifers averaging 1060 lbs. selling for 80.45. Twenty-two heifers consigned by Ian Wilbee of Walton averaging 1038 lbs. sold for an overall price of 79.00. 30 to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of 46.75. 40 to 50 lb. pigs to a high of 49.75 50 to 60 lb. pigs to a high of 58.50. • Go ahead.
