Hospital
to enlarge
A building and renovation
project for the Wingham and
District hospital has been
approved in principle by the
hospital's Board of governors
The improvements costing
apprOximately $465,000, are
intended to enhance out-
patient care. According to
the board, the Ministry of
Health has not funded
hospitals at the current rate
of inflation and many
provincial hospitals including
the Wingham hospital are
running deficits. The Board
decided to maintain its
current level of services even
if it meant running into a
deficit and an appeal was
made to the ministry for
additional funding to offset
this, Operating expenses
relate to the day to day
running of the hospital and
cover salaries and wages,
supplies and drugs, repairs,
etc. Funding for this is
completely separate from
funds used for capital
projects.
An Operating Statement
for the hospital for the period
ending September 30 in-
dicated an estimated deficit
of $33,474 based on funding
in the amount of $3,380,848.
The greatest increase was in
other supplies and expense
where the gross costs are
approximately $31,000 over
the budgeted figure. Payroll
analysis up to and including
the period ending October
13, 1980 showed a deficit of
$32,895 which is deficit in-
crease of -$2,483. over the
period ending September 29,
1980.
