Bluevale Women's In-
stitute met at the home of
Mrs. Robert Perry.
Jim McWhinney and Rod.
Hickey, local ambulance
attendants, were present to
answer queries about their
duties and general first-aid.
They explained C.P.R.
(Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation) a skill which
requires at least 16 hours to
learn and then practice to
gain efficiency.
They agreed the moss
important thing an untrained
person can do for a heart
attack victim is keep air
passages open and summon
help immediately. There is a
16 hour course in C.P:R.
offered at Conestoga College
for those interested in
learning more. All hospital
personnel are presently
being taught C.P.R.
Other first-aid measures
were discussed. Members
learned cold water is the best
treatment for first degree
burns. Second and third
degree wi
th
should be
covered with a sterile damp
cloth and the patient tran-
sported to the nearest
hospital. W.I. members
learned of the danger of
poisons in the home,
especially lemon oil.
A Red Cross first-aid
course is offered at a nominal

the new ambulance and had
the equipment explained.
They were urged to call the
ambulance whenever there is
a need for trained personnel
or transportation to a.
hospital. Mr. McWhinney
and Mr. Hickey were intro-
duced by . Mrs. Jack
Nicholson and thanked by
Eve Payne.
It was decided at an
executive meeting to hold
the District Annual in
Bluevale next spring.
A letter from the Bluevale
Chamber of Commerce was
read announcing a rate-
payers' meeting for
Turnberry at the hall on
October 27 and for Morris at
the hall on. October 28.. The
meetings give each candid-
ate for municipal office an
opportunity to speak to the
ratepayers. There will also
be a question and answer
period.
HOME ECONOMIST
MOVES
A letter announcing Grace
Bird's new position as Home
Economist in Middlesex
County was read. She will be
missed in Huron.
Roll call was answered by
stating which has the
greatest influence on a child;
home, school or church. It
was agreed by the entire
membership that home came
first.
Mrs. Payne gave the motto
The most valuable gift you
can give your child is la good
example. Children are
imitators and follow parents
example, she said. As they
grow they are like little
sponges,' '.absorbing what
they see and hear. The home
should offer love, stability,
kindness and respect.
Religion should be lived in
the home. When children
become teenagers, theY need
understanding and parents
need patience. Parents_ must
guide young people, not live
for them, she added. Parents
should take tyre to enjoy
children and 'take pride in
their accomplishments.
Members were told of

potential volunteers for the
Wingham and Area Day
Centre for the Homebound
