Creative Gifts opened last Thursday in what was formerly Mayer's Jewelry Store. (Photo by Ranney) Audrey Mayer opens new gift shop BY DEBBIE RANNEY Audrey Mayer is a woman who hates to be idle. That's why on Thursday of last week she opened a brand new store in Brussels, called Creative Gifts. Currently, the store contains quilts, atighans. , baby quilts, toys, dolls, beadwork, floral designs, slippers, toques, hats, hand- embroidered pillows and even a lamp made of popsicle sticks. And therein lies the basic idea for naming the store because as Audrey says, "There are so very many talented people in the area." The handiwork was• contributed by Audrey's friends and their friends and soon some of Audrey's own knitted items will be included in the store display. The idea of the name Creative Gifts, came from "things created by people," Audrey says. The idea for the store came to her a month ago and she said she couldn't stand being idle any longer. Plus she says she enjoys being' with people. Most of the items now in the store were made in advance. Success for this new venture in the village seems assured, as this store just opened on Thursday and a number of items were sold' that day. The store will be open 10 a.m. to S p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. THE.BRUSSELS POST, OCTOBER 15, 1980 — Obituaries he was not prepared to place such legislation before the legislature, they wanted an immediate freeze on the purchase of Ontario farmland by foreign interests. Huron County re- presentatives included Grant Curran, vice-president of the Ashfield Federation of Agriculture; John Van Beers, regional director for Huron East Central; Bob Robinson, president of the McKillop Federatin of Agriculture and. Merle Gunby, president of the Huron Federation of Agriculture. Mr. Henderson told the delegation "his hands were tied" because he cannot act until a bill, now the house, is passed. This bill would re- quire" - absentee foreign onwers to register with the government and companies with off-shore interests purchasing farmland in the province to declare themselves. The bill would only be in effect for one year, however. The minister did suggest that the Huron Federation approach their county council to request the government to pass a bill placing a freeze on the purchase of farmland in the county by foreign absentee owners. Since the bill would only protect Huron County and not the entire province, the federation representatives decided against this action. PLAYING POLITICS Director John Van Beers said, "We didn't accomplish inything" on the visit and accused the minister of "playing politics with us." Mr. Van Beers said local federation members hazi sent Mr. Henderson a letter outlining their concerns about the increasing foreign ownership in the county. When JAPP Jack. Riddell raised the issued in the legislative assembly, Mr. Henderson told the house Huron County federation had "sent him a nice apology", Please turn to page 16 Correction For futher information on the network for women in Huron.
