I don't think I could do it right at this point in

Councillor Workman suggested that
'Brus'sels could talk to some other
municipality which has had sewers in for five
or eight years and see what they would do
differently if'they had the chance.

If all good people were clever,
And all clever people were good,
The world would be nicer than ever
' We thought that it possibly could.
But somehow, 'tis seldom or never
The two hit it ofras they should;
The good are harsh to the clever
The clever are rude to the good.

Here is a "tummy" little item culled from
the pages of Safety Canada which should
deter folks trying their hand At home-made
rum. It will certainly influence them to
abstain from drinking such a brew. "hi
Great Britain a very potent bottle of
home-made rum exploded in a home,
scattering glass and liquid around the room.
The "rum" caused the carpet Underlay to
disintigrate, and Wall paper to peel off the
walls wherever it landed,"

What on earth is that 'queer noise? Oh!
Oh, my dog must be choking to death. Pry
open her mouth, prod around in her throat,
nothing there. She is disgusted. There it
goes again--and again--and again. What is
it? Listen here, listen there. Suddenly I
realize, when l track it down above my head,
it is my smoke detector doing the complain-
ing. Stare up at it for 6C seconds, it is
working. ,Where is the little r\ed flash but
there is also the miserable beep. Of course
being a non-mechanical female I had no idea
what was causing it. Opened it up, tapped it
here and there with no results; said a few
naughty words but they did not quiet the
pesky thing. Looked at the directions on the
box it was given to me in, nothing there
about unprovoked beeps, every 60 seconds,
It took one of those know-it-all males (r
son) to tell me it was trying to say it needed
a new battery if I expected to be warned of
dangerous smoke. No trouble taking out the
nearly dead battery but putting the new one
in was another matter. Being a lady I was
r wary about being too rough and was being
much too gentle. In disgust, after fiddling
with it for half an hour, and thinking of
taking a hammer to it, I gave the contraption
a good solid whack. It then meekly did what
it was supposed to do, flashed its little red
light and kept its mouth shut.
