Sterner! SO of Brussels died Sunday, Sept, ember 21 in Victoria Hospital London following a lengthy illness.. Heas horn in Formosa on October 26, 1936 and is survived by his wife the former Annie Hallahao of Blyth, He farmed most of his life in the Cranbrook area and was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Brussels and was very active in the Brussels Agricultural SocietY. Surviving also are his children, Anne (Mrs. John Doherty) of Goderich; Clem of Fairview, Alberta; Jim of VVingham, and Joe• of Walton. He was predeceased by one son Louis in 1948. A brother Neil of Teeswater and a sister Amelia (Mrs. Lloyd May) of Kitchener also survive . Funeral services were held. at the M.L. Watts Funeral Home in Brussels on Wed- nesday, September 24 with Father Wesley Gutowski officiating. Burial took place, in St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were five grandsons, Tim, Tom and Ted Doherty, Mark and Laverne Steffler and a nephew Clare Sterner. Flower bearers were grand- children, Mary-Jo, Patti-Jo Here and John Steffler and nephews Joe, Tom Raymond and Peter. Hallhan. Harley Moore, Grand Bend, told Huron-Perth Presbytery last week that "while I don't agree with all aspects of the report on Human Sexuality I do believe that we must take a look at these important issues that face us. We must look at our maleness and femaleness. The Grand Bend pastor stressed that the controver- sial document is a study report, not a policy of the United Church. Rev. Rae Grant, chairing his first Huron-Perth - meeting, teamed up with Moore to discuss highlights of the 28th General Council in Halifax last month. The report on indoctri- nation also drew interest from the court. The task force study put greater im- portance on baptism while affirmation will not have the same emphasis. The com- missioners said that most of the report had been referred for further study. Presbytery met in Trinity United Church, Listowel. The continuance of Sing- time over CKNX TV beyond the current season was de- bated at length. It's five-man committee asked the court to assess the value of the program. A decision of whe- ther to continue support will be made at the next meeting. Questionnaires which were circulated are to be a guide in evaluation. Singtime is be- lieved to be the longest running religious program on TV. Presbytery appoved a loan of $40,000 from the Capital Assistance Fund of the Divi- sion of Mission in Canada for a new addition to Grace United, Tavistock. Brussels United received permission to sell it s cemetery to the municipality. Secretary Eric LeDrew-ad- vised that inductions had been completed for the fol- lowing: Rev. Alun Thomas into Bayfield Pastoral Charge, Rev. Donald Pletsch, Mitchell; Rev. Charles Swan, Walton; Rev. David Northey, Monkton and Rev. Alex Filshie, Sebring- vile. The, new ministers to the area were recognized by the chairman and the court. The transfer of Rev. Ca- millia LaRouche of the Kirk- ton-Woodham charge to Bar- rie United was accepted as was thel resignation of Paul Schott as student supply from the Centro ilia charge as of October 31: Rev. Wilena Brown, Varna, was elected ro fill the vacancy of Rev. Bruce Eaton to the Resource Centre Board, Classified Ads pay dividends, A 1980.81 contract settlement was ratified by the Huron-Perth County Roman Catholic Separate School Board and by its teachers on Wednesday, September 17th, following negotiations which began late in January and concluded with a tentative agreement 11th September, 1980. Terms of settlement give the teachers an annual increase of 8,7%. With annual experience in- crements and responsibility allowances, increased cost to the Board will be 10.3%. Annual average salaries improve from $20,631. to $22,745. for the contract year, 1980-81. The new salary grid ranges from $12,325. for level D teachers with no experience to $31,465. for teachers having attained level A4 and 12 years experience. Qualifications Evaluation Council of Ointario (QAECO) Program III is being used to determine teacher level placement commencing. September 1, 1.980. Trustee David O'Reilly, Stratford, was chief negotiator for the board and Ed Cappelli, Stratford, for the teachers. Board chairman Ronald Marcy commended the committee for the excellent job and for the manner in which Trustee O'Reilly presented the schedule to the board. This presentation was made in committee-of-the- whole with only a brief discussion following it. A recorded vote was called by Trustee Arthur Haid of Listowel and there were three voters who indicated their opposition to the settle. ment as presented by .the chairman--Trustees Ronald Murray of Dublin, John O'Leary of Staffa and Tim McDonnell of Gadshill.
