LEWIS STONEHOUSE 887-9847 The Agriculture Meeting of the Belgrave Women's Institute was held recently in the W.I. Hall,President Mrs. Ross Higgins announced a short course on Crewel Embroidery in the village with the training school on October 20th and '29tlei anyone interested in taking theft course should contaCt Mrs. Dorothy Logan, Mrs. Jack Higgins and Mrs. Glenn `Coultes. An invitation was ex- tended to Institute members to attend the 75th Anniversary of the St. Helen's W.I. October 15. A Public Relations Officers and Secretaries Workshop will be held on October 9 in Wesley Willis United Church, Clinton. The Area convention will be held on October 27 and 28 in St. Mary's. A resolution regarding the acceptability of foreign ownership of farm land will be voted on. The Huron County Rally was announced for October 6 in Gorrie. The Historical Society regular meeting will be held on October 22 in the Bluevale United Church. The Belgrave Institute will be putting on a program at the Brookhaven Nursing Home on September 24th with Mrs. Norman Coultes and Mrs. Clare Van Camp in charge of the program. Reference was made to the very successful 60th Anniversary School Fair in which the Belgrave W.I. Float won first prize. The roll call "What is a Modern Wife's role on the Farm" was answered by the members present. Miss Ruth Higgins favoured the members with some piano solos. Mrs. Ross Taylor introduced the guest speaker, Neil Edgar of Wingham. His informative speech and interesting slide presentation on crop insurance • was enjoyed by all present. Mrs. Walter Scott spoke on the Ontario Slogan "Good Things Grow in Ontario". Mrs. Ross Higgins discussed the W .I. Handbook. Lunch was served by Mrs. Cora McGill, Mrs. Ivan Wightman, Mrs. Ross Taylor and Mrs. Walter Scott. Two poems, "Out in the Field with God" and "1 found Happiness" read by Dorothy Higgins opened the meeting of the afternoon unit of the U.C.W. September 8th. Mrs. Cecil Coultes game a meditation interspersed with bible readings by Miss Higgins. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Lawrence Taylor. Mrs. Alice Scott intro- duced the study for the coming year.• "Partners in the • Gospel". "We are all partners" she said. Christian living involves becoming partners with God, with neighbours and with those who suffer. The stress is on working with people and not just for them. Some time was spent in a get-acquainted discussion on the church's new moderator, Lois Smith. MEETING NO. 1 OF BELGRAVE 114-H The leaders of Belgrave Are Mrs, Alex Nethery and Mrs. Clare Van Camp. Officers are Donna Higgins President, Joan Higgins. Vice President and press reporter and secretary is roving. The club talked about Chinese styled stir-fried foods, also about energy conservation and kilowatt hours. All had a chance to cut some green peppers, with a French knife for Chinese style pork. Everyone had a chance to stir the pork and vegetables in the electric frying pan. The pork was served On lice and` eaten with chop sticki which was very difficult. A community shower for Rosemarie White, bride-to- be of this month, was held September 15 in the Hall. Donelda LAmont con- ducted a short program consisting of contests, flute solos by Doreen Anderson accompanied by Sheila Anderson at the piano and a reading by Mrs. Dorothy Logan. Rosemarie and her sisters Ruth Ann and Rita Lynn were escorted to the decorated chairs and Johanna Van Camp read an address to Rosemarie. Karen Dunbar and Johanna Van Camp presented the gifts. After Rosemarie and her sisters had opened them, Donelda presented her with an apron convered with bows and Rosemarie ,thanked everyone for the gifts and thoughtfulness. PERSONALS We are sorry 'to hear that Mrs. Harry McGuire and Jack McBurney are patients in the Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby attended the, Biennial Conference of the Conservation Authorities of Ontario held at Trenton last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Leitch, Julie and Jeffery of London, Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton spent the weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby. Mr. and Mrs. Carman Farrier, Miss Winnifted Farrier of Long Branch and Miss Dorothy Higgins of R.R. 5, Brussels were Friday afternoon visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Scott Coultes of Wawnesa and Donna Gale of Bandon spent last week with their grandmother Mrs. Albert Coultes. Mr. and 'Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of 1 Iderton were Sunday afternoon visitors with his mother Mrs. Laura Johnston. A family gathering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Campbell and family on Sunday afternoon. Those present were Mrs. Albert Coultes and Clifford Coultes, Scott Coultes of Wawnesa Manitoba and his sister Donna Gale Coultes of Brandon Manitoba, Mrs. Walter Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Scott and family, Mrs. Borden Scott and family, Mr. and Mrs: Kenneth Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Coultes, Mrs. Len' Jarvis of Listowel and Mrs. Floyd Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips of Auburn and Mrs. Helen Jagger Of Droitwich England were dinner guests on Sunday evening with Mr.. and. Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Mrs, Ray Purcell, Mrs. .Earl Hicks and Bert Hicks of Listowel were visitors on Wednesday evening, with MN. Leslie.
