The small, pink or red five-petalled flowers (A) resemble little stars and are borne in loose umbrella-like clusters on the upper portion of the plant. Swamp milkweeds can attain a height of 1.5 meters and flower during mid-summer. Leaves are narrow-ovate and taper to a point. Like other members of this plant family, its flowers are attractive to butterflies. But unlike other milkweeds, it is a solitary grower and rarely found in sizeable groups.
