til.E .BRISSEIA POST. SEPTEMBER 10,,1
The baseballs and bats have mostly
been put away for another year and the
footballs are coming out. As the seasons
change, so do the sports.
While hockey is perhaps what our village
is most notorious for (in sports) I would like
to take this opportunity, to dwell on baseball.
. Specifically our Bantam boys team'.
'Tis true we didn't win the trophy this
year, but we sure had a lot of fun trying: We
played .500 ball and advanced to the
semi-finals, losing to the strong team from,
Atwood. \
There were many great individual
efforts by the players that deserve notation.
Among them: Piper's great slide at home
(only to be called out),. Shawn's devastating
bunting, Cutch's clutch double in Howick
(our best game), the pick-offs from Rut to
Shawn, the twins 18 and 20 outstanding
fielding, Chris (face 12) at the plate, K.W.
pitching in Belmore (sometimes you just
gotta get mad), mighty Sholdice at bat,
Kell's pitching and the rest of the guys
White bean crop winners
in the field crop competition
for this year's fair have now
been chosen.
The winners with points
are as follows: John and
Riggings, Janes, Wafts, Cardiff-a fantastic
bunch of boys.
A special thank-you to Danny (B.J.)
McKay. Without his assistance we would
only have been another team.
To all the parents who drove to the out of.
town games, cheered at our home games
and helped discipline occasionally, (Yes
Edith) we doff our Home Hardware caps in
appreciation.
This team had many characters and a lot
of, colour, red & white specifically. We had
many donators for these new uniforms.
These people support minor sports programs
through their financial contributions. Let's
all support them.
-"A final thank you in appreciation of a
thankless job that was well done is to the
many umpires who were recruited voluntar-
ily for our games. Thank you.
We should all be proud of these young
men. Thank you all.
