Bus '..safety week I The period September 24th - 30th has been.set aside for Canada's Second Nation- al Sch9o1 Bus Safety Week. Many organizations with im- pressive names are, or should be, involved in the ' special week. These .can inclutle a num- ber of provincial government departments, especially those dealing with traffic and education. Municipal organ- izations such as school ' boards and police forces or detachments have common interests. Many voluntary grOups are directly involved. Groups 'of teachers. Groups of achninis- trators. Groups of bus oper- ators. And certainly Motor- , ing associations. But in the long run, the place where involvement is needed most is at the local level. ' Kids need to be educated abOUt traffic. But tha,es the easy part. It is educating the iadult that proves more dn. I cult. By.concentrating latent- lion on local school buses, and their drivers,..,„ local Igt'ouPs of teachers, Irttienal:• and service clubs csite'lo 'I much to raise the level of awareness of the fact that school, buses are back on‘ the' road for another school year, and awareness of the_ regula- tions concerning school bus- .es on the road. When children have home- work, we tell them "There is no substitute for knowledge", But do we practice what we preach? At this special, time, 'the Canada Safety Council asks every driver in Canada to review regulations and laws about school buses. NOW, CHILDREN, CAN EVERYONE HOP?
