Brussels council receiv- ed an application for the positon of building inspect- or, dog catcher and by-law enforcement officer when they met in regular council session Tuesday night. Connell has not yet adver- tised such a position, but is exploring the possibility of creating one and because of that decided to put Bruce Weber's application aside until the proper time. Council received the re- signation of Brussels fire chief David Hastings effect- ive as of September 1. "I think what we do is get the firemen to recommend, then we confirm," said Reeve Cal Krauter regarding a replacement for the fire chief. Council also „heard that four firemen had had their medicals. It was decided to grant Art Pearson a taxi licence subject- to a motor vehicle safety check for the purpose of running a taxi in the village. Clerk Bill King had some information on licencing tradesmen in the village and what they do regarding char- ging a fee in other places. He said he had called Stratford. Listowel, and Wingham but Stratford was the only place where they licenced trades- men and then only plumbers. TRADESMEN LEGIS- LATION The clerk also reported that new legislation , had come out which gives the municipality the right to licence tradesmen but they have a limit on $5 on that. The tradesman has to • be tested but the municipality will be allowed to charge $25 as the fee for having him tested. Councillor Gord Workman said he didn't cart if outside people came into the com- munity, "but what am I paying business tax for? I don't care if it's $25, $30 or whatever. It's all tax revenue for the village." Reeve Cal Krauter said, "I still think we've got to do a little more investigating," Council decided not to take any action until they got some more information. The. U.C.W. of Knox Uni- ted Church, Belgrave, held their 'general meeting on Tuesday evening, September 2nd in the school room of the church. Mrs. Dorothy Logan open- ed the meeting by reading a poem, "New Beginnings". Mrs. John McIntosh con- ducted, the worship service. Mrs. McIntosh read an explana- tion for this passaee of MRS.
