e I". THE BRUSSELS POST, SEPTEMBER 10, 1900'
Belgrave UCW hosting
North Huron meeting..
Brussels council receiv-
ed an application for the
positon of building inspect-
or, dog catcher and by-law
enforcement officer when
they met in regular council
session Tuesday night.
Connell has not yet adver-
tised such a position, but is
exploring the possibility of
creating one and because of
that decided to put Bruce
Weber's application aside
until the proper time.
Council received the re-
signation of Brussels fire
chief David Hastings effect-
ive as of September 1.
"I think what we do is get
the firemen to recommend,
then we confirm," said
Reeve Cal Krauter regarding
a replacement for the fire
chief.
Council also „heard that
four firemen had had their
medicals.
It was decided to grant
Art Pearson a taxi licence
subject- to a motor vehicle
safety check for the purpose
of running a taxi in the
village.
Clerk Bill King had some
information on licencing
tradesmen in the village and
what they do regarding char-
ging a fee in other places. He
said he had called Stratford.
Listowel, and Wingham but
Stratford was the only place
where they licenced trades-
men and then only plumbers.
TRADESMEN LEGIS-
LATION
The clerk also reported
that new legislation , had
come out which gives the
municipality the right to
licence tradesmen but they
have a limit on $5 on that.
The tradesman has to • be
tested but the municipality
will be allowed to charge $25
as the fee for having him
tested.
Councillor Gord Workman
said he didn't cart if outside
people came into the com-
munity, "but what am I
paying business tax for? I
don't care if it's $25, $30 or
whatever. It's all tax revenue
for the village."
Reeve Cal Krauter said, "I
still think we've got to do a
little more investigating,"
Council decided not to take
any action until they got
some more information.
