Children of tfte Laotian
family were presented with
bikes and, trikes by the
Brussels Vacation Bible
school when a closing
program was held at the
Melville ' Presbyterian
Church on Friday, night.
Over $130 was raised in
collections and that made it
possible to buy the bikes and
trikes for Suviny, Ratsamy,
Phailop, Marivan and.
Somekhame `Larprom.
Mr. Larprom wishes to
express the thanks of himself
and his family to the people
who, were responsible for the
gift.

histoeical .Significanbe when they were renovating the front porch. A
neighbour told them it was an old meat keeper used around 1900.

No it's an old meat box
Brian and Donna Sander-
son have been doing some
upgrading on their front
porch recently, but when a
construction crew was dig-
ging underneath the porch
last Tuesday, they came
across something + un-
expected.
It was a large,c heavy box
which had to be lifted out by,
a crane. Donna Sanderson
waited' impatiently for the
box to be opened in the hope
that it might contain some
buried treasure. It didn't. In
fact, it was quite empty, but
the box itself might be of
some historical significance.
A neighbour told the San-
dersons that the box was
used to keep meat in around
1900. Ice would be put in the
bottom of the crate and then
meat would be put on a grate
over top of the ice. The grate
is still in the boa, probably
stored underneath the porch
to keep it cool. Sandersons
think the box is, so heavy
because it probably has sand
in the top and sides which
would have been used as
insulation.
The Sandersons are also
• speculating that one of the
doctors who used to live in
the old house used the box as
a place to store medicines.
What are the Sandersons
going, to do with their old
meat keeper? Well, they say
they would like to sell it.
