A lot of coming and going here and there with plenty of time for relaxation in pleasant surroundings. Visits from friends, visiting with friends, sightseeing trip in Ottawa and beyond, shopping expeditions with the family (for me lots of looking and little buying.). ****** After visiting Kingston harbour and marina on our trip from. Brussels to' Ottawa we left the busy 401 to travel from there to Prescott on the Thousand Island Parkway. This Parkway was originally meant to be part of the 401 In some places two bridges were built side-by-side to accommodate the intended traffic lanes. These will' remain. It was disCovered in the early stages that it would not be suitable for high speed traffic. Motorists found the scenery too fascinating to keep their attention on their driving and there were frequent accidents. Along the Parkway you catch sight of the St. Lawrence and its islands and a glimpse of the International Bridge (more of it later). We stopped at the Brockville Narrows. This is where the St. Lawrence narrows and Great Lakes freighters can be plainly seen passing by, as one did as we watched. It is a delightful drive and much more interesting than speeding along 401. ****** On a day we visited Smith's Falls marina. I met an interesting couple my son knew. Several years ago the man began building a large, powerful houseboat. He had the hull custom-built and did the rest of it . himself. After the boat was completed, and paid for he retired. They sold their home and he and, his vafe have lived on their "houseboat ever since. They• spend their Summers on the Rideau Canal in the Smith Falls area. When fall comes they wind their way south through Canadian and U.S. waterways tothe ocean finally arriving in the Carribean ere they spend the winter months before returning north for the summer. They appear happy and well content with their nomadic lifestyle. (More next week) Inside the Post Buried treasure?. . . P. ' Bikes for Laotians. . . . P.
